Salem
–Officers responded to the 600 block of West Wilson Street at 5:32 p.m. Wednesday for a report of two men observed trying to gain access to a closed business. The caller confronted the individuals who then ran southwest from the area. Officers checked throughout the area but did not locate the individuals. The building and surrounding buildings were checked, and everything was OK.
–Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 5:48 p.m. Wednesday for a reported gas drive-off. Officers spoke with the caller who advised it was a misunderstanding and it was a computer error.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a gunshot from the wooded area west of that location. The caller heard a single shot that sounded like a .22 caliber. The projectile was heard traveling through the trees overhead. The area the shot was believed to have originated from appeared to be in Perry Township’s jurisdiction. Perry Township officer responded and subsequently checked the surrounding area.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of Morris Avenue at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an unruly juvenile. The caller advised her son was being combative and not listening. She wanted her son transported to Akron Children’s in Boardman. An EMT transported the juvenile.
–Officers spoke with a man at the police department at 3:17 p.m. Wednesday for a speak with officer report. The man advised he had been sending multiple money gift cards to a woman he met through a dating app and that he had never met the woman and only spoke with her through the app. Officers advised the caller he was probably getting scammed and advised him to un-install the app and not to speak with the woman.
–Officers on patrol observed clothing on a tree in Waterworth Memorial Park in the wooded area at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday. It appeared some one had been staying at that location and officers checked the area but weren’t able to locate anyone. Officers will check back at a later time.
New Waterford
Officers responded to the 46000 block of North State Street at 9:56 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a sick skunk. Due to the serious injuries of the skunk, officers had to euthanize the animal.
Officers at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday spoke with a woman from the 3400 block of Pinewood Drive regarding a telecommunications harassment complaint. A man was warned to stop or face charges.
Officers responded to the 46000 block of Church Street at 1:13 p.m. Sept. 27 in reference to a person to be removed. Officers spoke with the unwanted individuals and they were warned to leave the property by that evening or be charged with criminal trespass.
Leetonia
— An officer conducted at welfare check at 6:11 p.m. Sept. 27 in the first block of West Main Street. The adult male and children appeared fine.
— Police warned a female caller about the penalty of violating a protection order if she continued harassing a male via telecommunication in the 100 block of Pine Street at 6:52 p.m. Sept. 28.
— An officer accompanied EMS to a medical call at 8:23 p.m. Sept. 28 to a residence in the 200 block of Walnut Street. The caller advised that her contractor is unresponsive, lying on her garage floor. The snoring man eventually awoke in a confused state.
— Police investigated an open 911 line at 5:47 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Ridge Street. There was no issue.
— Police received a call at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday from Leetonia Elementary School, where a parent had failed to retrieve her three children from the aftercare program. Apparently, the woman had been speeding to the school from an appointment and got pulled over. Eventually their older sister came to retrieve the juveniles.
— A reckless driver complaint was investigated at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday off state Route 11. The vehicle, a Champion school bus, got off the Leetonia/Columbia exit after weaving all over the lanes and going over the dotted line on Route 11 and was never located by police.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the Solid Rock Community Church at 6:43 p.m. Wednesday for a report of unwanted people. The caller advised that a post was made regarding protesting at the church, and due to the church being private property, officers stood by to ensure no unwanted person would cause a disturbance.
— Officers responded to Fresh Mark at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a gunshot that was heard nearby and originated from the township. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the source of the gunshot.
— Officers on patrol in the area of state Route 45 observed a man walking on the wrong side of the road, and observed the man litter an empty bottle into the ditch. Officers topped the man who advised he was just walking home from work and did not mean to toss the bottle. Officers provided the man a transport to his residence and warned him for walking on the correct side of the roadway and littering.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Pembrook Drive at 1:12 a.m. Wednesday for a reported civil matter. Officers arrived and found the caller was over a cellphone. Officers advised both parties that the issue was civil and to separate for the night.
— Officers responded to the 2100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 6:44 p.m. Tuesday for a report of possible vandalism. The caller advised that she had to have her vehicle towed and later found out that she had a large amount of water in her gas tank. The origin of the water was unclear, and the caller felt it was suspicious. The caller advised that she did not believe that the possible vandalism happened at her residence and also did not know if it had gotten there from a gas station.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Liberty Street at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday for a reported sick and or injured raccoon. Once on scene officers spoke with the caller who advised that the animal had gone into the drain under the road and had not come back out. Officers checked the drain but were unable to locate the animal.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of West Pine Lake Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report regarding a gun safe he got at an auction. The man advised that the safe company needed a police report proving he was the owner of the safe and it was never reported lost or stolen so the company could send him a new pass code for the safe. The man was advised to contact the auction house for a receipt to prove ownership of the safe.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of Benton Road and state Route 45 at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a man and woman walking along the roadway. Officers checked on them and they advised they were walking home and did not need assistance.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Andrew Avenue at 12:49 p.m. Tuesday for a report of stolen dogs. Officers discovered the dogs had been loose and picked up. The dogs were located at the Columbiana County Dog Pound and returned them to their owner. Officers will be investigating trespass charges.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of West Pidgeon Road at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a suspicious vehicle sitting in a driveway with its lights on. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Depot Road at 8:55 p.m. Sunday for a reported neighbor complaint. The caller advised that their trash can had been tipped over and they believed that it was done on purpose. Officers explained the nature of the incident to the caller.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Jennings Avenue at 9:07 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator heading toward the city. The area described ended up belonging to the city and was checked anyway, with no contact able to be made with the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Springdale Street at 12:44 p.m. Saturday for a report of a low hanging line. Officers found the homeowner was trimming trees and a limb pulled the power line from his house. The fire department and Ohio Edison responded and cleared the roadway.
— Police were flagged down regarding a loose horse in the 2100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 10:02 a.m. Saturday. Officers found a pony had broken through a gate, and officers and a passerby were able to get the horse back in the pen and secured.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 3:36 a.m. Sept. 27 for a reported missing juvenile. The caller advised that they might be at a friend’s house, and the juvenile eventually returned home.
— Officers responded to Depot Road at 3:58 p.m. Sept. 27 for a report of a suspicious man. The only information supplied was a man sitting in the grass. Officers checked the area as well as surrounding areas and were unable to locate them.
— Officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 62 and state Route 45 for a vehicle that had been sitting there for multiple days. Officers found the vehicle unoccupied and unsecured, and Kaiser’s Towing arrived and removed the vehicle.
Wellsville
— An investigation is pending on a theft report officers responded to on Sept. 24 in the 1200 block of Commerce Street. A female working to fix the property up to rent reported that that $300 worth of laminate flooring had been taken from the house.
— Officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Third and Broadway streets on Sept. 24.
— Matthew Ruark was advised not to return to Save-A-Lot after admitting to police he took a ratchet strap and copper from the rear of the business on Sept. 24. He turned over the strap to the responding officer who then drove him to his house to retrieve the copper.
— An investigation is pending into a hit-and-run in the parking lot of the Crystal Lounge. A male told officers on Sept. 29 he came out of church and was told by another church member that someone hit his parked truck while backing out.
