Highway Patrol

— Grant Cope, of Depot Road in Salem, was cited at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in Salem Township on a charge of improper overtaking. Both Kaydreona Horner, of Woodsdale Road in Hanoverton, and Cope were eastbound on Winona Road, when Horner attempted to pass Cope, who made a left turn and struck Horner.

— Madison Farrant, of East Euclid Avenue in Salem, was cited at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in Center Township on a charge of failure to maintain an assured clear distance, after she rearended a vehicle driver by John Evans Jr., of Main Street in Leetonia, when they were both northbound on state Route 45.

— Bridget Borchardt, of East Friend Street in Columbiana, was cited at 10:12 p.m. Sept. 16 in Unity Township on a charge of failure to control, after she allegedly swerved to miss an animal on Metz Road, went off the right side of the road and struck a rock.

— Andrew Brooks, of Middle Beaver Road in Lisbon, was cited at 2:15 a.m. Sept. 17 in Madison Township on a charge of failure to control, after driving off the left side of state Route 7, striking a ditch and culvert.

— Roy Haddad, of Shady Lane in Salem, was cited at 12:08 p.m. Sept. 15 on a charge of failure to yield the right of way, after striking a vehicle driven by Larry Bock, of Winona Road in Hanoverton, near the intersection of state Route 558 and Fairfield School Road.

— Ricky Moore, of Main Street in Wellsville, was cited at 1:10 p.m. Sept. 19 on a charge of failure to maintain an assured clear distance, after striking a vehicle driven by Clark Dunn, of Y&O Road in East Liverpool.

— Kirsten McConahy, of Ellwood City, Pa., was cited at 10:34 a.m. Sept. 20 on a charge of failure to control, after driving off the right side of Bye Road while he was negotiating a curve and striking a guardrail.

— Neither driver was cited due to conflicting information after a two-vehicle crash at 4:39 p.m. Sept. 20 in Hanover Township. Clifford VanKirk, of Teegarden Road in Lisbon, and Huseyin Sezgin, of Brooklyn, N.Y., were traveling in opposite directions on state Route 172 and collided. Each claimed the other driver had traveled left of center; however, there was no evidence or witnesses to support either claims.

Leetonia

— Laura Billet was served with a 15-day letter at 11:35 a.m. Monday on behalf of the village after she had issued a $100 payment for a water bill that had been returned as non-sufficient funds. There is NSF charge of $10, making the amount owned to the Leetonia Water Office $110.

— An unidentified juvenile reportedly had made school shooting threats on Sept. 18, which several other students had reported to a teacher. After a brief investigation, police made contact with the juvenile. Both he and his mother refused to sign the Miranda waiver. The juvenile indicated he was suicidal, so Leetonia EMS/Fire arrived and transported the juvenile, who will be charged in Columbiana County Juvenile Court, to Youngstown.

— Lucas Upole, no information listed, was cited at 4:07 p.m. Monday near Spruce and Somer streets on charges of failure to display plates, driver’s license not on person, and failing to provide registration and proof of insurance. Police were on a routine patrol when they noticed Upole operating a four-wheeler northbound on Lisbon Street and proceeding to turn onto Somer Street. The four-wheeler had no license plate displayed or turn signals, so the officer initiated a traffic stop. Upole acknowledged that he didn’t have license plates and still was waiting to receive the title. He also didn’t have his driver’s license, registation or insurance on him when stopped.

— A police officer was dispatched at 4:04 a.m. Sept. 22 to the first block of Pine Street in response to a medical call, where a female subject was having chest pains. Upon EMT’s arrival, she signed a refusal form and the officer cleared the scene.

— A female resident of the 700 block of Columbia Street reported at 12:32 p.m. Sept. 20 that her daughter had been scammed by a man that she met on “Sugarbook,” which is a dating app. He sent her checks of varying amounts that she deposited and transferred the money back to him via Cashapp and Zelle.

Salem

–Officers responded to the area of North Broadway Avenue and East Fourth Street at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday for a report of shots fired. Officers checked the entire area, and all was quiet. Nobody was outside nor did anyone claim to hear anything, and no evidence of shots fired could be located.

–Officers on patrol in the area of East State Street at 11:09 p.m. Tuesday stopped a vehicle in a business parking lot for a license violation. Officers spoke with the driver Emica Hall, 19, Salem, advising them of the reason for the stop, and it was discovered that she had outstanding fines through the court, and Hall was ultimately cited for driving under suspension.

–Officers on patrol in the 100 block of Buckeye Avenue at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday for a reported dispute. When officers arrived, the issue seemed to have calmed down and they were advised that the involved parties had been in a verbal argument about a dispute between one of the parties and their significant other. The person in question decided to leave for the night.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of Cleveland Street at 5:39 p.m. Tuesday for a reported verbal dispute. Officers spoke with the involved parties who advised they were just having an argument near an open window, and that nothing physical had occurred.

–Officers spoke to a person by phone at 12:49 p.m. Tuesday for a report of theft. The caller advised that she lives in the 400 block of Jennings Avenue and that two political signs were taken from her yard.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of Ohio Avenue at 9:56 a.m. Monday for a reported civil matter. The caller had questions about previous tenants they had living in their residence, advising that they were living in another state and had a woman and two men living in the residence and paying the house payment. The caller received a letter for the property getting foreclosed and a letter from the housing department for unsafe living conditions. Officers advised them that the matter was considered civil, and they should contact a lawyer.

–Joshua Selway, 34, Salem, was cited for a red-light violation after his southbound vehicle on North Union Avenue failed to stop at the intersection causing it to be struck by a vehicle driven eastbound on East State Street by Brennan Farmer, 25, Leetonia, at 8:08 a.m. Monday. Both vehicles were towed by Sinsley’s towing.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Continental Drive at 12:48 a.m. Monday for a reported 911 hang up call. Dispatch received a 911 text message that was said to have come from the residence in question and everything was determined to be okay, and the resident advised that he never sent the message.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of Morris Avenue at 7:25 p.m. Sunday for a report of a juvenile refusing to get out of a vehicle to be home for the night and threatening harm to others. Officers spoke with the parents and juvenile and first responders were called to the scene and transported them to the hospital for further evaluation due to concerns for the juvenile’s frame of mind with the parents’ consent.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of Prospect Street at 6:52 p.m. Sunday for a report of an ongoing issue between her daughter and an ex-boyfriend, and that the ex had walked past the residence on the sidewalk. A trespass form was signed by the resident in case the ex were to come onto her property, and she was advised that officers would have to contact the person and make him aware of the notice.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Sixteenth Street at 6:51 p.m. Sunday for a reported unruly juvenile causing issues and hitting things inside the residence. The caller advised that the juvenile had locked himself inside of a bathroom and refused to come out. The guardian already had the door handle removed in an attempt to gain entry prior to officers’ arrival so officers had to use tools to gain entry into the bathroom to ensure the juvenile’s safety. Officers spoke with the juvenile and collected information about the matter, finding the juvenile was just angry about recent circumstances in their life.

–Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 6:32 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unknown issue. Officers spoke with people in the area, and they advised that they were loud while on the phone with a family member. There were no other problems, and they apologized for the inconvenience.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 2:26 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person possibly staying behind a business in the 2300 block of East State Street. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:34 p.m. Sunday for a report of criminal trespassing. They advised that two people had been sleeping in the dumpster behind the church and wanted them trespassed. The person filled out a trespass form and officers advised that they would attempt to contact the people in question.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 11:38 a.m. Sunday for a reported juvenile issue. Officers were advised that a juvenile had made remarks that she wanted to harm herself. Officers spoke to the juvenile who did admit to making the remarks, and officers requested the fire department respond, and the juvenile was transported to Akron Children’s for an evaluation.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Street at 9:01 a.m. Sunday for a report of dogs at large. Officers located the animals in question and spoke with their owner, issuing a verbal warning for dog at large.

–Officers responded to the area of North Broadway Avenue at 4:36 a.m. Sunday for a report of possible shots fired. Officers spoke with several witnesses and gathered pertinent information, and the detective division responded to further the investigation which is ongoing.

–Officers responded to Circle K West at 11:43 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

–Officers on patrol in the area of Centennial Park at 11:03 p.m. Saturday located a vehicle in after closing hours. The occupants were watching a movie and did not realize the park was closed, and they promptly departed.

–Terrian McFarland was cited for driving under suspension and a headlight violation after her westbound vehicle on East State Street was observed with only one working headlight at 8:58 p.m. Saturday.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of Morris Avenue at 3:57 p.m. Saturday to check for a missing juvenile at the request of the Akron Police Department. Officers checked with the juvenile’s mother who advised she had not seen him. At approximately 6:35 p.m. that night Akron officers transported the juvenile in question to Salem and turned them over to their mother.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 2:43 p.m. Saturday for a reported person with a possible warrant. Officers spoke with the person in question, Shane Knepper, 53, Salem, confirming the warrant and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of Southeast Boulevard at 12:40 p.m. Saturday for a reported water line break. Officers located the break and had dispatch contact the water department. Due to the size of the break, officers closed the road until the water department arrived on scene.
