-- A suspicious vehicle was discovered at 6:39 p.m. Sept. 6 at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home. Police made contact with a non-verbal older male on scene and discovered the vehicle's owner attending a family reunion at Wick Park.. She advised the man was her disabled uncle. So she left the event to go retrieve him and the vehicle.
-- An officer responded at 12:11 p.m. Sept. 3 to a report that a small dog had been struck by a car that continued on without stopping. The dog had to be euthanized by the veterinarian due to injuries.
--A village resident was advised on how to file for a protection order against the non-spousal father of her child shortly before 1 p.m. Sept. 5. After giving her statements, no threats or violent action had taken place.
--The male half of a domestic dispute came on station at 1:27 p.m. Sept. 3. He was given a ride to his sister's in Washingtonville. He reported no threats or harm.
Salem
--Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 8:19 a.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. A storage cabinet outside a local business was knocked over on the sidewalk. Officers put the cabinet back up and the business was notified.
--Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 1:50 a.m. Monday for a report of a possible assault that had occurred that morning. Officers collected information and the victim needed medical attention for an injury that was unrelated to the assault. The victim was transported to the hospital by first responders.
--Officers responded to Liberty Avenue at 8:51 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unoccupied motor vehicle that had coasted down the roadway and came to a stop on the sidewalk in front of a residence. Officers located the registered owner who had stated the vehicle does not have working parking brakes, so it is kept in reverse. Officers advised them to invest in wheel chalks or some sort of device to keep the vehicle from moving.
--Officers responded to Barnetts Market at 6:33 p.m. Sunday for a reported theft that took place on Aug. 30. The person in question took a container that contained 22 various vape devices and left the store. Officers identified the person, and a warrant will be filed.
--Officers responded to the 1400 block of Allen Road at 5:24 p.m. Sunday for a report of possible shots fired. Officers checked the area and found it to be in Perry Township outside of city limits.
--Officers responded to the area of Waterworth Memorial Park at 3:39 p.m. Sunday for a report of suspicious activity. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the people or vehicles in question.
--Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 2:13 p.m. Sunday for a reported graffiti complaint. The caller advised that someone had put spray paint on the tree in her yard, and that she had contacted Ohio Edison and was advised they did not do it. She advised that she just wanted it documented at that time.
--Officers responded to the area of North Broadway Avenue at 11:26 p.m. Saturday for a reported hit and skip. The caller advised that a red truck was driving the wrong way on Broadway Avenue, left the roadway through the grass, and drove directly at her vehicle striking the rear bumper. While on scene a red truck drove past the scene and returned to a residence on North Ellsworth Avenue, and a resident in the area approached officers and advised that it was the vehicle which had caused the accident. Other residents also advised they'd observed the truck to be driving recklessly in the area before the accident. Officers spoke with the man, Kevin Burkholder, 32, Salem, who denied any involvement and was hostile towards officers. White paint transfer was observed on the front driver's side of the bumper in the location that struck the other vehicle, and Burkholder was cited for reckless operation, failure to control, and wrong way on a one way.
--Officers responded to the 200 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 2:27 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possible dispute. Officers spoke with the person who advised that it was only verbal and that nothing physical had taken place. The people left in separate directions.
--Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 1:51 a.m. Saturday to assist the Ohio State Highway Patrol with a traffic stop. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
--Officers on patrol in the 100 block of West State Street at 1:48 a.m. Saturday observed a vehicle commit a speed violation. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, speaking with the occupants and could smell an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. A juvenile passenger admitted they had been drinking and officers contacted the juvenile's parents, and each juvenile was picked up or taken back to their residence. Charges are pending juvenile court approval.
--Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 12:32 a.m. Saturday for a report of a person passed out on the sidewalk. Officers spoke with the person and gave them a courtesy transported back to their residence and advised them that if they were seen again in that condition they would be arrested for public intoxication.
--Officers responded to the area of Jennings Avenue and West State Street at 8:49 p.m. Friday for a reported reckless driver. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
--Officers responded to the 400 block of Reilly Avenue at 8:09 p.m. Friday for a reported fight. When officers arrived, the parties were already separated, and no injury had occurred.
--Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 4:44 p.m. Friday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that a neighbor's camera was pointed at his back door, and when he asked the neighbor about it, he claimed it was not pointed at the caller's door, but at his own driveway and house. Officers advised the man to contact the Perry Township Police Department as his address is in their jurisdiction.
--Officers responded to the 100 block of Jennings Avenue at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised a breaker had tripped in his apartment, but he could not access the electrical panel. The man was advised that this is not a matter involving law enforcement and to contact the person who would have access to the electrical panel.
--Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious object which the caller advised was a plastic wrapping covered in what appeared to be a white crystalized substance. The object was obtained by officers and transported to the police department for proper disposal.
--Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of West Seventh Street at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday to serve an arrest warrant. Contact was attempted but could not be made.
--Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Sixth Street at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday for a reported theft of a golf cart. It was reported by coaches at the school that someone entered the shed near the baseball field and fled northbound on North Lincoln Avenue. An employee of the school followed the person on North Lincoln outside of the city limits. While officers were on scene it was reported that the juvenile suspect was north of the four-lane on state Route 9. They responded and located the juvenile in the 2100 block of state Route 9. The juvenile who is well-known to officers due to having a mental handicap, admitted to officers that he had stolen the golf cart and ditched it. The golf cart was located in a ditch on Old Farm Road and recovered by high school staff. The juvenile was transported back to the high school where the juvenile's mother responded to retrieve him. The fire department and EMT were requested to the scene. At the juvenile's mother's request he was transported to Akron Children's Boardman for a mental evaluation. It was advised that the caller wanted to pursue charges against the juvenile. Charges are pending in the juvenile court.
--Officers responded to the 200 block of Merle Road at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a juvenile who ran away. Officers obtained information from the mother but were unable to locate the juvenile at that time. A short time later the juvenile was located, The mother requested the juvenile be assessed by EMS. First responders then arrived to assess the juvenile and was later transported to a proper medical facility.
--Officers responded to the 800 block of North Howard Avenue at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday to speak with a resident about an incident that had occurred recently. Officers gathered information and advised the caller that the residence would be added for patrol and watch.
--Officers responded with the housing department to the 300 block of Ohio Avenue at 4:09 p.m. Tuesday for a report of three men living at a condemned house. Officers spoke with one of the men who advised he was waiting for the landlord to let him know if he needs to move out. Officers advised all three men that residence has been condemned since April, and nobody should be living in the residence,. They advised they would leave.
--Officers responded to the 200 block of Ohio Avenue at 3:23 p.m. Wednesday for a reported person to be removed. Officers spoke with the man in question who advised he was allowed to be at the residence and was just not going through the eviction process. Officers had dispatch contact the caller to come to the residence who advised that the housing department had condemned the residence in April. Housing was contacted to respond and advised that both the caller and tenant knew that house was condemned and nobody should be living there. Officers advised the man he could take his belongings out of the residence but can't be living there and will be arrested for criminal trespass if caught staying there.
--Shirley Hough, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after her northbound vehicle on South Broadway Avenue failed to yield from a four-way stop and struck a vehicle driven eastbound on East Pershing Street by Robin Williamson, Salem, at 2:46 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
--Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday for a reported theft. The caller advised that a Wheel Horse tractor was taken from a residence in Ohio Avenue. Officers advised a police report would be made.
--Officers responded to the 600 block of West Wilson Street at 1:33 p.m. Tuesday for a report of two juveniles unattended playing in the street. Officers located an open back door to the juvenile's residence and located a man who was sleeping. The juveniles were returned to their father who advised he fell asleep from working nights and his daughter must have opened the back door.
