Leetonia
–The village administrator reported at 8 a.m. Monday that someone had stolen a hanging basket of flowers (valued at $100) from the Wursters Memorial Splash Pad. An employee who hd been assigned to water them Sunday had found them missing.
–Jamie B. Young, no address listed, was cited for improper backing at 10:38 a.m. Aug. 23 after backing into a vehicle belonging to Brenda Kay Dietz on Somer Street.
–Police responded at 3:19 p.m. Aug. 23 to a two-vehicle near the intersection of Main and Walnut streets. Joleen Marie Bunner was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign, after allegedly admitting to not looking look right before pulling out to turn left onto Walnut and head south, strike the vehicle of Kate Lynn Davis.
–A false alarm drop was reported at 2:29 p.m. Monday at Small Wonders in the first block of Walnut.
–Timothy Haught was cited at 1:43 p.m. Aug. 24 for failure to control and assured clear distance, after allegedly striking a stopped motorcycle from the rear on state Route 344 near Old 344. The motorcyclist, Richard McCullough, was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 62 near the township limit at 11:35 a.m. Monday for a report of a man walking in and out of the roadway. Officers observed the man and offered him a ride, and the man refused telling officers to leave him alone and kept walking westbound. Officers spoke with a Goshen Township officer and advised him of the location of the man.
— Officers responded to a reported medical call in the 1200 block of Highland West Avenue at 10:43 a.m. Monday for a medical call. Officers found the man had fallen in his driveway and was in pain. The man was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment.
— Officers responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue at 2:37 a.m. Monday for a possible assault. Officers spoke with the caller who advised nothing physical had occurred and officers advised both parties to separate for the night.
— Ruth Snyder, 74, Salem, was cited for failure to maintain lane after her vehicle on Georgetown Road struck a vehicle driven by Mark Verovich, 55, Cortland, while attempting to turn onto West Perry Street at 1:04 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Highland West Avenue at 3:28 p.m. Sunday for a reported medical call. Officers found the man, who had fallen outside, and stood by until EMT responded and transported the man to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Wisconsin Avenue at 12:04 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with both residents who advised that they had been arguing but nothing physical occurred.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:26 a.m. Saturday regarding threats being made. Officers gathered information and spoke with the caller about his options.
— Officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 62 and the state Route 45 bypass at 9:10 a.m. Saturday to take a report of a road rage incident. Officers spoke with both the caller and a witness who both advised that a vehicle was passing cars at a high rate of speed, following too closely, and nearly running vehicles off the roadway. When the caller confronted the driver of the vehicle at a stop light the caller claimed they brandished a firearm and made verbal threats toward him. The caller stated that the driver then left the scene when he was made aware police were responding. Officers gathered all pertinent information, and the matter is under investigation.
— Officers were on patrol in the area of West Perry Street at 12:08 a.m. Saturday when multiple fireworks were left off in the area of Newgarden Avenue. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 11:48 p.m. Friday for a report of gunshots being heard. Officers arrived in the area but were unable to locate where the source was coming from.
— Officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 62 at 11:04 p.m. Friday for a report of reckless operators. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 2000 block of Goshen Road at 7:55 p.m. Friday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with all parties involved and were advised nothing physical had taken place. Officers advised everyone to separate for the night.
— Officers responded to the intersection of South Lincoln Avenue and East Pidgeon Road at 4:22 p.m. Friday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located a vehicle matching the description given and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle after observing the man using his cell phone while driving. Officers identified the driver as Joseph Klicek, 55, Cleveland, and found him to be driving under suspension and had an active warrant out of the Cleveland Police Department. Officers confirmed the warrant and took Klicek into custody and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail. Klicek was also cited for driving under suspension and driving while texting.
–Rodney Bentley, 75, Salem, was cited for failure to control after his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway on Newgarden Avenue striking a tree at 12:59 p.m. Friday. The fire department responded to assist with freeing Bentley due to entrapment, and Bentley was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Biddle’s Towing.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Pine Lake Road at 9:26 p.m. Thursday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised they heard someone shouting they were from the sheriff’s office. No Columbiana County or Mahoning County sheriff’s office units were in the area and officers checked the area but were unable to locate any suspicious activity.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Ohio Boulevard at 1:04 a.m. Thursday for a report of two suspicious individuals wearing masks banging on people’s front door. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate them.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Blossom Lane at 12:41 a.m. Thursday to attempt to locate a woman. Officers were able to find the woman and relayed the information to the Salem Police Department.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of North Ohio Boulevard at 11:04 p.m. Aug. 21 to assist the Salem Police Department with locating the daughter of a woman who had not been seen in a few days. Officers were unable to contact them.
— Jeffrey Walter, 37, Leetonia, was cited for improper backing after his vehicle on Allen Road backed into a vehicle driven by Sasha Ritchey, 46, Alliance, while attempting to turn onto Benton Road at 12:52 p.m. Aug. 20. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pidgeon Road at 4:42 p.m. Aug. 19 for a wellness check. Officers found a man who had been sitting in his vehicle for a couple hours but was unable to drive home due to a medical condition. Officers provided transportation home to the man’s home in the city.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 8:12 p.m. Saturday for a possible domestic in progress. Officers attempted contact at the residence but were unable to contact them.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Quaker Lane at 7:07 p.m. Saturday for a barking dog complaint. Officers spoke with the owner, and the dog was already in the residence.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 4:03 p.m. Saturday about receiving two credit cards in the mail she had not applied for. Officers spoke with the caller, and she was provided with the options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of East Tenth Street at 3:43 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she was concerned for her son due to him not sleeping for several days. Officers attempted contact several times but were unable to contact them
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 3:35 p.m. Saturday for a report of trespassing. The caller advised that the person in question had walked away prior to officers’ arrival. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the person in question.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 1:03 p.m. Saturday regarding an issue with her juvenile son. The caller advised that her juvenile son had made some purchases with her bank card without her knowledge or permission. Officers advised the caller of the options for dealing with the situation. Officers will send a copy of the report to the department’s Juvenile Officer.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 12:56 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she was unable to contact her adult granddaughter. Officers were unable to make contact at the residence, but were able to contact them by phone, who advised that they were fine and would contact the caller.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 9:45 a.m. Saturday for a report of recovered property. The caller advised that she had found an unfired shotgun shell, and officers took the shell back to the police department for proper disposal.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 8:09 a.m. Saturday for a reported scam. The caller advised that he received several phones from an unknown person who claimed to work for the FBI and was asking for money via gift cards. Officers advised the caller it was a scam and not to give any personal information to the person.
— Officers on patrol in the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:53 a.m. Wednesday located a vehicle parked behind a business after hours. Officers spoke with the driver who advised he was on break from his job and left the area.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of South Union Avenue at 12:37 a.m. Wednesday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that her outdoor cameras were picking up someone walking with a flashlight behind her residence. Officers checked the property but were unable to locate anyone. A man was located walking through Centennial Park and was advised of park hours.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue at 11:31 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a person with an active warrant. Officers were unable to locate the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Ninth Street at 6:56 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. The caller advised her son was attempting to harm her. Officers spoke with both the son and the caller who had fled to a neighbor’s house to call for help. Both advised that an argument had occurred between the two and the son flipped over a table causing the caller to fear for her safety. The son agreed to leave the residence for a while to allow both parties to calm down. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Sharp Avenue at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday for a reported dog bite. The caller advised that he was walking down the sidewalk when a dog ran out of a house and attacked his dog. He and the owner of the dog separated the animals and were both bitten while doing so. The owner of the dog was given a verbal warning for dog at large.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue at 4:51 p.m. Tuesday for a reported animal complaint. Officers were advised that a dog was possibly thrown out a window. Officers spoke with the owner of the dog who advised it got out an open window and fell off the roof. Officers checked the dog, and it appeared to be OK.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday for a reported ambulance needed complaint. Officers stood by while the fire department and EMT treated the patient, who was later transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center. The caller was also transferred to the Salem Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 4:38 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a reckless vehicle that had been observed swerving. The caller provided a license plate, and officers located the vehicle parked at a business. Officers spoke with the driver, advising them of the complaint, and observed no indication of impairment or a medical issue.
