Sheriff's Office
-- Deputies at 4:50 a.m. Aug. 10 responded to a report of an assault at a property on Signal Road, Fairfield Township where a man reported there was an altercation between him and another male who kept trying to prevent him from leaving in his vehicle by opening the door and standing in the way. The man said he exited his vehicle and struck the other male who fell to the ground and was still there when he left the scene. Deputies spoke with the other male, who did not wish to pursue charges. Both men signed a refusal and were advised to stay away from each other.
-- A deputy at 7:44 a.m. Aug. 4 took a report of a possible burglary on Grant Street, Center Township after several people entered a home and took cell phones.
Highway Patrol
-- Philip G. Hamilton, of Struthers, was cited at 4:40 p.m. Aug. 14 for assured clear distance after rearending a vehicle while traveling on state Route 14 in Unity Township.
-- Maxwell Baney, of Wampum, Pa., was cited at 11:22 p.m. Aug. 18 for reasonable control after driving off the right side of U.S. Route 30 while traveling west, striking a guardrail and a tree.
-- Robert DeBiec, of South Market Street, Lisbon, was not cited after swerving to miss a herd of deer crossing Sprucevale Road, which he was traveling north on, going off the right side of the road, striking a ditch and an embankment in St. Clair Township. He was transported to East Liverpool City Hospital for evaluation.
-- Seth Hildebrand, of Birch Road, East Liverpool, was cited at 10:24 p.m. Aug. 17 for reasonable control after he lost control of his vehicle while traveling west on state Route 154, struck a guardrail, overcorrected and went off the right side of the road before hitting an embankment in Elkrun Township.
-- Kaleb Marteney, of Malvern, was cited at 1:17 p.m. Aug. 14 for assured clear distance after rearending a vehicle driven by Ethan Bailey, of Washington Street, Lisbon, at a red light in Center Township. Marteney was a valid permit holder driving with a licensed driver as required by law.
-- David Lucei of Monaca, Pa., was cited at 10:20 a.m. Aug. 17 for improper overtaking after going around a stopped vehicle driven by Christopher Ryan of Richmond, who was attempting to turn left onto Township Road 754 off of the southwest lane of state Route 518 and getting struck in Franklin Township.
-- Ronald Melott, of LaCroft Avenue, East Liverpool, was cited at 5:45 am. Aug. 17 for reasonable control after his southbound vehicle went off the right side of state Route 164, hit a traffic sign and then a ditch in Center Township.
-- Caitlynn Osborne, of Woodbine Avenue, East Liverpool, was cited at 4:20 a.m. Aug. 13 for reasonable control after she lost control of her vehicle, which was southwestbound on Applegate Road, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
-- Jeffrey Yoku, of Camelot Drive Apartments, Columbiana, was cited at 6:40 p.m. Aug. 8 for assured clear distance after he rearended a vehicle driven by Mary Ann Pollock, of North West Street, Columbiana, when she stopped to turn left onto Chestnut Alley from state Route 164 in Columbiana.
-- Elizabeth Charlton, of Louisville, was cited at 11:25 p.m. Aug. 10 for reasonable control while traveling southwest on Padgett Road and driving off the left side of the road, hitting a tree and fence post in Unity Township.
Columbiana
-- A report of criminal mischief was received at 1 a.m. Aug. 17 in the 300 block of West Park Avenue.
-- A wallet was recovered at 5:58 p.m. Aug. 16 near the pickle ball court in Firestone Park.
-- An officer went at 8:34 a.m. Aug. 16 to Fairfield Animal Hospital for a consultation.
-- Michael J. Angiuli, 35, of Columbiana, was arrested at 8:53 p.m. Aug. 15 on charges of OVI, speed and no plate light following a traffic stop on state Route 14.
-- Jeffrey J. Maldonado, of New Springfield, was cited at 11:15 p.m. Aug. 14 for driving under suspension and fictitious plates following a traffic stop near the intersection of state Routes 7 and 14.
-- Hayden J. Cope, of Salem, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 14 on an active felony warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office without incident.
-- Logan Stewart, of New Middletown, was arrested at 11:28 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 14000 block of South Avenue on charges of OVI and speeding, following a traffic stop.
Leetonia
-- An officer was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person dressed in all black near the railroad tracks at Washington Street and the Greenway bike trail at 7:09 a.m. Friday. He was unable to locate anyone matching that description and cleared without further incident.
-- Police responded at 7:14 a.m. Friday to a motion alarm drop at Leetonia Public Library. The building appeared secure except for a ladder through a window being accessed for some kind of repair. The key holder was contacted and advised of the alarm.
-- An out-of-state visitor came on station at 7:23 a.m. Thursday to get assistance entering his locked Toyota. Police attempted to assist him but he had damaged his keylock in the process. So despite their efforts, they were unsuccessful.
-- At 6:38 p.m. Tuesday near the intersections of Columbia and Wilson streets, an officer observed a white dog with a pink collar running loose, traveling from Mill Street. After trying to restrain the dog to locate its rightful owner, the dog ran into two backyards in the 400 block of Columbia Street, where it became involved in a fight with the property owner's dog at 408 Columbia. The loose dog's owner, Courtney Bosworth, arrived shortly after the pooches were separated and was charged with dog at large. Neither dog sustained serious injury.
-- Police responded at 5:41 p.m. Thursday to a 911 open line at a residence in the 300 block of Waddell Street. It turns out that a 5-year-old had been playing with a supposedly inactive phone and called the number accidentally.
-- Officers responded to a disabled vehicle at 7:44 a.m. Friday near the American Legion. After turning off the emergency brake, the vehicle was drivable and the subject left the scene.
Salem
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of Broadway Avenue at 7:58 a.m. Wednesday for a reported stolen bicycle. The caller advised that he had been out of town for several months during which he'd left two bicycles with an acquaintance for safe keeping, and both bicycles were observed to be missing from their property as of Tuesday. The caller responded to the police department to see if the bicycles had been located and brought to the police department, and neither bicycle was observed in the inventory. Officers gathered descriptions of the bicycles to complete a report, and the caller was advised to contact officers if he observes or recovers either bicycle.
-- Officers responded to the 1300 block of East State Street at 4:22 a.m. Friday for a reported noise complaint. Officers spoke with the homeowner who advised that the people in question were being loud prior to officers' arrival.
-- Officers responded to the area of North Ellsworth Avenue at 2:42 a.m. Friday for a report of possible gun shots. Officers checked the entire area and the surrounding streets, and all was quiet, and nothing was located.
-- Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:29 a.m. Friday for a possible fight in progress. Officers spoke with people in the area and found there had been an argument between a man and a woman that left prior to officers' arrival.
-- Officers responded to the 700 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:37 p.m. Thursday for a reported irate person. Officers spoke with a man who advised he was just trying to get away from a man and woman walking a pit bull down the sidewalk. The man advised that he was afraid of the dog and the man and woman then yelling at him and he yelled back but kept walking down the sidewalk.
-- Officers responded to the 300 block of South Union Avenue at 8:37 p.m. Thursday for a noise complaint. The caller was advised of the complaint and the music was turned down.
-- Officers responded to the 400 block of Reilly Avenue at 7:54 p.m. Thursday for a report of theft and menacing. The caller advised he was walking with a man and went to a residence in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue when another man at the residence told him to empty his backpack out on the ground, and then grabbed a tire iron, chased, and threatened the caller. Officers responded to the residence where the incident occurred, and the man advised that he had never chased the caller with a tire iron and that he had dropped his bag and ran down the street, and they had collected the caller's belongings to hold it for them. Officers had the caller come collect his property and the caller advised they wanted charges filed against the man for aggravated menacing.
-- Officers responded to the 400 block of East School Street at 7:38 p.m. Thursday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a man that lives in the area allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at her children, who were playing outside. Officers responded to the 400 block of East Fifth Street to speak with the man, who was said to have changed his clothes, denied having a firearm, and without additional information to go on the incident is considered unfounded.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of South Howard Avenue at 6:56 p.m. Thursday for a wellness check on a woman that nobody has seen for about a week. The caller advised their mail has been piling up and the fire department was notified and able to open the door. Officers checked the residence finding nobody inside and re-secured the residence. Officers spoke with the neighbor and advised them to contact the police department when the woman returns home.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of South Howard Avenue at 6:42 p.m. Thursday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in taking a man into custody. The man was taken into custody and transported to the police department where he was charged by the task force, and later transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of South Broadway Avenue at 4:25 p.m. Thursday for a possibility of an individual going into their apartment without permission while they were at work. Officers advised them they would attempt to contact the person and advised them that if they enter the apartment without permission, they may face possible charges.
-- Officers responded to the 300 block of North Broadway Avenue at 3:50 p.m. Thursday for a report of a possible scam. The caller and his girlfriend advised that they purchased items from a business in the 1000 block of West State Street at 3:50 p.m. Thursday and used an EMT card but were charged tax on some items they believed they shouldn't have been and were concerned a card skimmer was being used. Officers followed up with the business and everything appeared to be normal.
