-- Village police responded at 10:26 a.m. Wednesday to the Greenway Bike Trail to investigate a shirtless man acting strangely. Cyclists had reported that he was "removing his clothing while approaching people on the bike trail," causing panic. They found the subject just west of the main parking lot. The man relayed that he wasn't doing anything wrong and was just trying to get home. Officers determined that while he indeed was shirtless he hadn't removed any other articles of clothing although his pants were falling slightly below his waist. Officers sent him home and told him not to approach anyone else in the area.
-- Shainna Mathes, 20, no address listed, was arrested at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday on state Route 344 near Family Dollar on charges of OVI and left of center, after an officer observed her cross the double line and executed a traffic stop. A very emotional Mathes with glassy eyes was having difficulty answering basic questions and was shaking rapidly. She was unable to present her ID information and proof of insurance, according to the report. A female passenger also was observed not to be wearing her seat belt and also was slurring her words. She also couldn't present ID. After admitting to consuming one Twisted Tea and performing poorly on field sobriety tests, Mathes was subsequently charged and she blew a .142 BAC on breathlyzer in the Salem police station. An empty box of alcoholic beverage was recovered from her vehicle. The female passenger, Sydney Panza, no age provided, of Beaver, Pa. later was charged with assault on a peace officer by Salem police, after she became belligerant while detained in a holding area due to her severe intoxication level.
