Perry Township
– Martin Whitman Jr., 77, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead following a two-vehicle crash on Benton Road near the state Route 45 bypass at 2:36 p.m. Monday in which he failed to stop for traffic, striking the rear of a vehicle driven by Rachel Booth, 39, Salem, who was attempting to make a left turn onto Florida Avenue. No injuries were reported.
– Officers responded to the 1800 block of Allen Road at 2:59 p.m. Nov. 12 in reference to two cars racing side by side at a high rate of speed and pulling into a driveway. Officers spoke with the owners of the cars and advised them of the citations they could receive if reported again.
– Officers responded to the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and Ohio Boulevard at 2:23 p.m. Nov. 12 where a motorist reported another driver was following too close and making multiple lane violations. The driver in question, Melissa Mills, 39, Salem, was charged with driving under the influence. Mills was also found in possession of non-prescription pills on her person and in her vehicle. All the pills were seized and charges are pending testing.
– Timothy C. Hidasey, 31, Salem, was charged with criminal damaging after officers responded to the 1200 block of West Perry Street at 3:57 p.m. Nov. 11 where he allegedly broke through the door of an apartment. Officers collecting statements from the witnesses and documented the broken door.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Ohio Boulevard at 9:01 p.m. Sunday for a report of a suspicious person fleeing the area. After the people in question were seen by a nearby neighbor they ran into the woods. Officers spoke with the caller and searched the wooded area along with a nearby neighbor’s house. Officers were unable to locate anyone at that time.
— Officers spoke to a man by phone at 10:42 a.m. Saturday for a civil complaint. The caller advised an ex-girlfriend was selling a ring online. Officers took a report and informed the caller that the matter was civil.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Allen Road at 9:21 p.m. Friday for a report of a person having a dog in the house when they weren’t supposed to. Officers advised them that it was a civil matter and that he would have to contact his attorney.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Allen Road at 5:50 p.m. Friday for a domestic complaint. The caller advised that her live-in boyfriend had threatened her and then later in the day was throwing and breaking things. Salem police also responded to assist, and officers gathered statements from everyone involved and the boyfriend was made to leave the home due to a protection order he was served.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Plymouth Place at 4:53 p.m. Nov. 16 for a report of vandalism. The caller advised that a window had been broken out of his vehicle sometime in the past 18 hours.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Bethel Drive at 3:20 p.m. Nov. 16 for a reported brush fire. The caller advised they had lit a pile of leaves on fire, and it was now out of control near an outside building. Officers found a shed on fire when they arrived and stood by for traffic control until the fire department could extinguish the fire.
— Alan Malson, 30, Salem, was cited for speeding and driving under suspension after his vehicle was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 10:27 a.m. Nov. 15.
