County Sheriff
— A resident on Grant Street, Center Township, reported at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday that sometime overnight, someone spray painted short sentences across the left side of his Ford F-150 truck and across the tailgate. The tail lights were sprayed along with the license plate covering the registration number. The cost of damages was determined to be $2,000 for repairs. Leads for possible suspects are being investigated.
— A barking dog was reported at 10:40 p.m. Sunday on Linda Way in Unity Township, but none were found.
— Deputies at 3:12 a.m. Sunday assisted local EMS agencies with a combative male. The male was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
— Personnel at Salem Regional Medical Center requested a welfare check at 10:34 p.m. Saturday on a man on McCloskey Road, Unity Township, but there was no contact with anyone at the residence.
— A Roller Coaster Road resident in Elkrun Township reported people on ATVs trespassing on the property at 10:49 p.m. Sept. 22, but deputies didn’t find anyone.
— Cows were reported in the road in the 34000 block of Teegarden Road, Salem Township, at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 22, but were not found.
— An alarm was reported at 1:17 p.m. Sept. 22 on Woodside Drive, Butler Township, with all doors and windows found secure.
— A woman on Mattix Road, Center Township, reported at 12:57 p.m. Sept. 22 that her 14-year-old son was being harassed by a Salineville female through social media. She was blocked, but she wanted a report on file.
— Deputies were called at 12:58 a.m. Sept. 22 to Arbaugh Mini Storage, U.S. Route 62, Knox Township, for a welfare check on a person possible overdosing on the property, but no one was found.
— At 12:34 p.m. Sept. 20, a representative of Dunkin’ Donuts, state Route 45, Lisbon, reported a bucket truck with no license plate come through the driveway and caused damage to a light pole.
— Vandalism was reported at 7:24 a.m. Sept. 17 on Tomahawk Drive, Middleton Township, where a property owner said they believed someone removed the wooden blocks from their trailer, causing the trailer to roll down the hill, damaging a neighbor’s boat and stopping at the neighbor’s pavilion.
— A woman reported at 9:19 a.m. Sept. 16 that someone she has a protection order against has been creating fake accounts and contacting her through these accounts. He has also been calling her from a number used by deputies to contact him in the past. The report will be sent to the prosecutor for review.
— A man reported at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 15 that he received a call from two people who said it would be in his best interest to drop the charges against a woman who was in jail at this time. He wanted it documented. The report will be sent to the prosecutor.
— A man reported at 1:35 p.m. Sept. 15 that he believed his mother’s boyfriend applied to Medicaid in his mother’s name and was collecting any payments issued as a result. He didn’t have evidence other than observing his behavior when the subject comes up.
— A deputy was dispatched at 4:18 p.m. Sept. 14 to state Route 170, Middleton Township, for a person having mental health issues. Negley EMS transported the person to East Liverpool City Hospital.
Columbiana
— Officers responded at 4:39 a.m. To S. West St. for an open 911 call on Sept. 6. Officers made contact with a man at the residence who was transported by EMS.
— Officers assisted Columbiana EMS at 11:28 p.m. on Spet. 5.
— Kevin Short, 50, no address provided, was arrested for an outstanding warrant on state Route 14 at 9:51 p.m. on Sept. 5.
— Janielle Rauch, no age provided, Lisbon was cited at 3:29 p.m. on Sept. 5, charged with driving under suspension following a traffic stop on N. Main St.
— Officers took a report of criminal mischief at the city park in E. Park Ave. at 1:43 p.m. on Sept. 5.
— Officers responded to a report of dogs at large on S. Elm St. at 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 5.
— A Stark County woman called at 3:22 p.m. on Sept. 4 to report she received a call from someone impersonating a Columbiana County police officer and provided a call back number.
— Officers took a report at 4:09 p.m. on Sept. 4 about a private property crash at Sparkle at Village Plaza.
— Officers responded at 10 a.m. on Sept. 3 about a private property crash at McDonald’s on state Route 14.
— Officers found suspected narcotics at 12:56 a.m. on Sept. 3 during a traffic stop on state Route 14. Charges are pending based on lab results.
— Officers responded at 8:55 p.m. to Hawkins Lane to a report of [possible break-in on Sept. 2. A caller reported that security cameras had recorded a subject kicking the front door of their home. The area was searched and the subject not located.
— A woman on Edgewood Drive reported at 3:22 p.m. on Sept. 2 that a man had borrowed her car and never returned it. The car was listed as stolen.
— Kevin Caldwell, 32, New Waterford, 2:33 p.m. Sept. 2 was cited following a traffic stop on Town Center Ave. and charged with driving under suspension. Suspected narcotics and paraphernalia was also found and more charges may be pending based on lab results.
— Cody Kurtz, 29, Salem, was arrested and charged with OVI at 8:18 p.m. on Sept. 1 following reports of a car striking another vehicle in the parking lot of Homestead Kitchen and Cocktails on Town Center Ave.
— Officers took a report at 11:35 a.m. on Sept. 1 of theft regarding an Ebay transaction. Police are investigating.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Woodland Avenue at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday in reference to someone moving around houses then getting into a black sedan and leaving. Officers made several sweeps through the area and adjacent streets but could not find the person or vehicle in question.
— Officers responded to Centennial Park at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday in reference to someone sneaking around the bathrooms. Officers spoke with the person and advised them park hours. Other people there at the time were also told to leave.
— A patrolling officer at 10:03 p.m. Tuesday observed six people inside the restrooms at Waterworth Memorial Park after hours. One of the people was found smoking marijuana and given a warning. All the individuals were advised of the park hours and sent on their way.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Ohio Avenue at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a dispute and found a couple going through a divorce arguing about their relationship, with the husband standing in front of the wife’s vehicle preventing her from leaving. The husband said the wife would not give him his mother’s ashes. They were both advised the matter was civil in nature and the husband was provided options for handling the incident legally.
— A child was reported at 6:58 p.m. Tuesday having claimed he had a gun in his backpack while on the school bus that day. The school resource officer spoke with the juvnile’s parent about the incident and would follow up with school staff in the morning.
— A West Wilson Street resident reported at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday he had been receiving emails from an unknown person threatening to kill him and demanding $500. The resident was told not to responded to the emails and let police know if they continue.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fourth Street at 5:42 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a person to be removed. Officers spoke with the complainant and her attorney, who provided paperwork for a protection order against the person to be removed. The person gathered some items and left the residence without incident.
— Officers responded to the intersection of West School and East Sixth streets at 5 p.m. Tuesday where a juvenile was riding a bicycle north and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, striking an eastbound vehicle. The juvenile, who was wearing a helmet, was transported by ambulance to Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman with minor injuries.
— An officer responded to the 500 block of Franklin Street at 11:17 a.m. Tuesday where a resident said her dog was attacked by another dog in McCulloch Park on East State Street at approximately 3:55 p.m. Sept. 23 and just wanted the incident documented. The matter was forwarded to the city health department.
— An officer spoke with someone on station at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday who wanted to an officer to speak with their juvenile son about inappropriate comments he was making to other juveniles. The juvenile said he understood and it wouldn’t happen again.
— Officers responded to the intersection of East Pershing Street and South Lundy Avenue at 11:14 p.m. Monday in reference to a possible domestic dispute that resulted in a vehicle striking a pedestrian. During the dispute, a woman ran into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle. The woman was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown for evaluation.
— Officers responded with the fire department to the 300 block of Penn Avenue at 10:52 p.m. Monday in reference to a fire and found the dumpster and surrounding fence on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Ninth Street at 7:12 p.m. Monday to assist medical personnel with an incident in which an individual reportedly ingested narcotics and alcohol and was vomiting. Officers spoke with the individual who denied consuming any narcotics and refused medical treatment.
— East Fourth Street residents reported on station at 5:10 p.m. Monday their juvenile daughter had received “snap chats” from two unknown individuals — one asking for a code on a purchased Amazon gift card and the other offering nicotine and miscellaneous items for sale. They were advised it is a scam and to block and delete the accounts.
— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 4:30 p.m. Monday in reference to two people with outstanding warrants through Columbiana County. Officers found the two people inside the store. Tai K. Kotas, no age listed, New Waterford, was arrested on warrants a probation violation and for failure to appear for possession of drugs. Christopher J. Dawes, no age listed, Salem, was arrested on warrants for failure to appear for dangerous drugs and non-support.
— An officer responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 3:29 p.m. Monday where a resident reported her juvenile daughter had run out the back door and into the woods behind the home. Officers checked the woods and surrounding areas, but were unable to find the juvenile. The juvenile was found in the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 7:58 p.m. the same day and said she ran away because of mistreatment at home. She refused to cooperate with her parents who responded to pick her up and was ultimately arrested for domestic violence and disorderly conduct and transported to the Tobin Center.
— An officer responded to the 500 block of East Third Street at 2:53 a.m. Thursday where a resident reported someone knocking on her door. The officer searched the property but found no one.
— Officers responded to a 2700 block East State Street business at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a man outside carrying a machete. The man was trespassed from the property.
— Officers responded to the a 2800 block East State Street business at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a male individual possibly in possession of a firearm on his side harassing other people and making them uncomfortable. Officers found the man in the parking lot in possession of a mace canister, not a firearm, and he denied harassing anybody, but that he was interested in attending a class at the business. He was trespassed from the property.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Maple Street at 5:56 p.m. Wednesday where someone reported her juvenile daughter was being threatened by a group of juveniles. The juveniles were advised to stay away from each other and told of the consequences of fighting at the park.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Stewart Avenue at 4:29 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a domestic dispute. Officers found no violence occurred and one person involved left.
— Officers responded to the 2700 block of East State Street at 4:21 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a suspicious person. The person had left before officers arrived.
Perry Township
— A patrolling officer at 9:44 p.m. Sept. 19 observed an individual on the side of state Route 344 and Chestnut Grove Road who said she found a domesticated rabbit in the roadway and had retrieved it so it would not get hit. While the officer was on scene a loose dog approached the cruiser. The officer was able to find the dog’s owner and issued a warning for dog at large. The officer then found the rabbit’s owner and learned an animal had attacked other rabbits on the property.
— Officers responded to 1700 block South Lincoln Avenue business at 7:46 p.m. Sept. 19 in reference to gunshots being fired. Officers could hear several faint shots from the woods behind the building. Officers checked the area and could not find anyone before clearing after no longer hearing the shots.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 3:02 p.m. Sept. 19 in reference to a medical problem and stood by until medical personnel transported the patient to the Salem hospital.
— Officers assisted the Columbiana County drug task force conduct a search warrant in the 600 block of Franklin Street at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 19.
— Officers responded to an 1800 block South Lincoln Avenue business at 8:03 p.m. Sept. 18 in reference to a man asking customers for a ride for about an hour despite being to leave. Officers spoke to the man who said he was just trying to find a ride home. Officers provided him a ride home.
— Officers spoke with a woman who reported at 3 p.m. Sept. 18 a problem her son at a Springdale Street property was having with a neighbor. She and her son were advised of their options.
— Kade Leasure, 18, North Benton, was cited for failure to yield following a two-vehicle crash on state Route 45 near Benton Road at 1:26 p.m. Sept. 18 in which he was turning west onto Benton Road and struck a vehicle driven by John Flickinger, 61, Canton.
— Police responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 7:33 a.m. Sept. 18 where a resident reported an ex-boyfriend was continually texting her. She was advised of her options.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:55 p.m. Sept. 17 in reference to juvenile who was receiving sexually explicit messages and emails. Officers obtained screenshots of all the messages and will be investigating the matter further.
— David Jones, 57, Salem, was charged with domestic violence after officers responded to his Jones Drive home at 5:29 p.m. Sept. 17 where he allegedly grabbed a family member by arm in struggle over car keys.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 11:31 p.m. Sept. 16 in reference to a verbal altercation. Officers found no criminal activity and advised the people involved to keep the noise down.
East Liverpool
— An officer responded to Second Street on Aug. 27 at 11:04 a.m. for a report of a reckless driver. The officer ran the registration of the vehicle found matching the description of the one reported and found the registered owner to have an OVI suspension. After observing the driver to be the registered owner the officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Chad Vonhanel, age and address not provided, was cited for driving under suspension and given a mandatory court date. The vehicle was impounded by First Class Towing.
— An officer took a report of a stolen lawnmower in the 900 block of Riley Avenue on Aug. 27 at 7:42 p.m.
— An officer responded on Aug. 27 at 8:39 a.m. to Smith’s Gas Station on St. Clair Avenue for a report of a White Dodge Ram leaving the station without paying for the $15.16 worth of gas pumped for the vehicle.
— Officers responded to a welfare check on McKinnon Avenue on Aug. 27 at 9:04 p.m. after receiving a call about a female who said she was going to hurt herself. Officers made contact with the female who said she hadn’t even spoken to the caller, and she was not going to harm herself.
— Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West Fourth Street for a welfare check on Aug. 28 at 9:59 p.m. to check on a juvenile. The officer spoke with the juvenile who appeared fine and said she was fine. Officers found nothing out of the ordinary with the home or the juvenile.
— An officer spoke with a female on Aug. 28 at 9:51 a.m. regarding a custody issue. Due to not having proper custody papers the juvenile was returned to the father.
— Officers spoke with multiple people on Green Lane on Aug. 28 at 9:47 p.m. regarding a disturbance that had taken place. Two males got into a small scuffle but were no longer fighting when officers arrived. Neither male wanted to press charges, so officers cleared the scene after making sure everything was OK.
— Officers responded on Aug. 28 at 4:26 p.m. to a call regarding kids playing on Lisbon Street by demolished houses. The caller said the kids were riding a four-wheeler in the road and a dog almost got hit. Officers searched the area but didn’t find anything.
— Officers responded on Aug. 28 at 9:03 p.m. to the 300 block East Eighth Street for a report of a male and female screaming and fighting. The female had left before officers arrived.
— An officer took a report on Aug. 28 at 5:48 p.m. from a male who said someone stole the hitch off of his Jeep. The male believes the theft took place at the Giant Eagle on Bradshaw Avenue between 5:15 and 5:45 p.m.
— Officers responded to a Wilbert Avenue residence on Aug. 28 at 2:28 a.m. at the request of the female resident who said her husband was assaulting her. The husband, Harry A. Baum, fled the apartment before the officers arrived. Baum was charged with domestic violence.
— Officers took a missing person’s report from a mother who said her daughter didn’t return home from school on Aug. 28. The juvenile brother who is not authorized to pick the juvenile up from school had picked her up that day. The juvenile was located.
— An officer responding to a complaint made by a male reporting someone throwing a rock at his son in the 700 block of Jackson Street on Aug. 28 at 1:56 a.m.
— An officer took a report at the station from a female regarding a stolen wallet on Aug. 28 at 7:53 a.m. The female later called back and said she found the wallet.
— An officer responded to the 500 block of Hill Boulevard on Aug. 28 at 4:20 p.m. for a disturbance report called in by a neighbor. The officer made contact with a male who said he lived at the residence, but the people inside would not let him in. The resident said all his belongings were in the garage where they had been since they last saw him in July. The male was advised to leave and make arrangements to get his belongings. The residents were advised to seek a protection order due to the male allegedly making threats.
— An officer took a report at the station Aug. 28 at 6:43 p.m. for a missing juvenile. The mother observed her son walking while she was outside the police station talking to the officer. The officer spoke with the juvenile who said he was just hanging with friends. The officer told the juvenile to go home and stay there. He went home with his mother.
— Officers responded to a call of people sleeping in tents behind Keystone Printing on St. Clair Avenue on Aug. 29 at 8:28 a.m. Officers made contact with two males who were told to gather their things and leave the property and if they returned, they would be charged.
— Officers took a report for vandalism on Aug. 29 at 6:37 p.m. Officers will look into the vandalism of the bus stop in front of Tice’s Gas Station.
— Officers responded on Aug 29 at 10:12 a.m. to a report of a vehicle sitting in front of a house on Charles Street that hasn’t moved in over a year. The vehicle was towed by First Class Towing.
— An officer took a report from a female on Aug. 29 at 5:09 p.m. who said her son returned home from school and then took off. She also said he is on house arrest and is not supposed to leave. The officer dealt with the same issue the day prior and advised her a report will be on file.
— Officers on Aug. 29 at 6:36 p.m. recovered a counterfeit $5 bill from Giant Eagle.
— Officers arrested a male juvenile on Aug. 29 at 3:59 p.m. for assaulting his grandmother. The juvenile was transported to the Tobin Center.
— Officers were dispatched on Aug. 29 at 10:22 p.m. to a residence in the 800 block of Green Lane for a disturbance. The caller said he was locked out of his house, and no one would let him in. Officers responded and made contact with a resident who let the caller back into the home.
— Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Broadview Circle to meet with a township unit on Aug. 30 at 7:23 p.m. in regard to a female reporting that her landlord shut off power to her apartment. Officers spoke with the landlord who said the power was shut off due to a possible electrical fire in the apartment and he was having an electrician to look at it the following day. The female was advised that if it was turned off due to lease issues it was a civil matter.
— An officer responded on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. to West Ninth Street for a female needing removed from the porch of a residence. The residents were upset that a female was walking down the street taking a video from the sidewalk.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street on Aug. 30 at 9:02 a.m. for a report of the rear door being opened. Officers found the building to be empty but there were signs of vandalism inside the building. Officers were able to identify four juveniles from previous incidents. A report will be forwarded to juvenile court. All the juveniles’ guardians were notified.
— An officer responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on state Route 11 on Aug. 30 at 3:02 p.m.
— An officer took a report on Aug. 30 at 1:23 p.m. from a female who said her vehicle was parked in front of Dairy Queen when another person keyed her car.
— An officer responded on Aug. 30 at 4:01 p.m. to a report of a fight on Broadway Street. The officer discovered that one of parties involved, Zackery Young, 23, address not provided, had an active warrant out of Hancock County. Young was placed under arrest and transported to the Columbiana County Jail and charged as a fugitive from justice.
— An officer took a report on Aug. 30 at 7:58 a.m. from a male reporting that someone hacked into his cell phone and his tablet. The male told the officer he believes that someone has accessed his devices and keeps changing and reading his emails.
— An officer responded to the Hall China Building on Anna Street on Aug. 30 at 12:40 p.m. in reference to a broken window. Camera footage was provided to the officer of juveniles throwing rocks at the windows.
— Officers were dispatched to Northside Street on Aug. 30 at 11:32 p.m. for a report of suspicious activity. The caller reported they saw someone with a flashlight outside. Officers checked the area but found nothing.
— An officer responded on Aug. 30 at 11:58 a.m., to the 700 block of Cartwright Street for a vehicle hitting a mailbox. Resident did not see who did it.
— Officers were dispatched to Family Dollar on Aug. 30 at 5:46 p.m. for six juveniles breaking bottles and destroying things. Officers checked the area but didn’t find anything.
— On Aug. 30 at 1:23 p.m., a juvenile came to the station to turn himself in for breaking glass at Tice’s.
— An officer responded on Aug. 30 at 3:56 p.m. to the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue for one to be removed, but had negative contact with anyone on arrival.
