County Sheriff
-- A deputy responded at 8:20 a.m. Sunday to Eagleton Road for a welfare check due to a medical alert received. Upon investigation, the deputy learned the woman was fine, but due to the loss of power, she was unable to get up out of her chair because it was reclined. EMS was contacted for a lift assist.
-- An open 911 line was reported at 12:49 a.m. Sunday on Front Street, Hanoverton at the Frontier Communications substation. The building was checked, with no contact made with anyone.
-- A man on Second Street in Hanoverton reported at 4:51 p.m. Saturday that his neighbor's fence hit his residence, causing damage to a window.
-- A Butler Township resident on Tower Road reported at 2:38 p.m. Saturday that his trailer jack was stolen off of a property he owns on Whinnery Road.
-- A Depot Road resident in the 6700 block reported at 11:36 a.m. Saturday that a chain saw and firearm were taken from his garage.
-- A deputy was called at 10:35 a.m. Saturday to U.S. Route 30, Hanoverton regarding a civil matter. A man said he moved out of the residence two weeks ago and was back to collect the rest of his belongings, but the other party wanted a deputy there. They were told it's a civil matter and the sheriff's office won't get involved without a court order. Both parties were civil while the deputy was there.
-- Noise was reported at 1:10 a.m. Saturday on Steubenville Pike Road in Center Township, but nothing was found.
-- A suspicious vehicle was reported at 5:58 p.m. Friday in the parking lot at the Valley View gas station, U.S. Route 62, Butler Township, but was not found.
-- A welfare check was requested at 4:38 p.m. Friday on Mahoning Avenue, Knox Township, but the person was fine.
-- A 4-wheeler was reported going up and down the road on Lisa Lane and Parkview Drive at 9:37 p.m. Thursday, but was not found.
-- A deputy was dispatched at 4:08 p.m. Thursday to Benton Road to assist Perry Township and Columbiana police departments with recovering a stolen vehicle that had been reported stolen from the Columbiana area. Mathew Crowl, 44, Salem, was located on the property and taken into custody on warrants out of Columbiana County.
-- A man on Hammond School Road, Madison Township reported at 9 p.m. March 21 that he could hear something moving around in the attic of his residence. Deputies were told he checked the attic and everything was fine.
-- A resident of McCormick Run Road, Madison Township reported hearing two gunshots in the area at 9:04 p.m. March 21.
Columbiana
-- Officers arrested Shannon Baker, 48, Columbiana, at 5:08 p.m. on two counts of Endangering Children, OVI, open container and other traffic offenses following a traffic crash on state Route 14 near state Route 7 on March 17. Baker was later transported to the Columbiana County Jail without incident.
-- Officers arrested William Mays, 45, no address given, at 6:33 p.m. March 17 charged for OVI after a call for an intoxicated male leaving Belleria on state Route 14.
-- Officers responded at 6:18 p.m. to Cherry Street for a domestic disturbance, March 18. Following an investigation, both parties were separated for the night.
-- Officers assisted EMS at 12:25 p.m. with a female experiencing mental health issues on Columbiana Lisbon Road, March 20.
-- Officers received a call at 6:56 p.m. for a homeless male at the Marathon gas station, March 20. Officers transported the male to the Mahoning County Rescue Mission in Youngstown.
-- Officers cited Joel Sfakis, no age given, East Liverpool at 5:36 p.m. for driving under suspension on state Route 7, Tuesday.
-- Officers responded at 5:48 p.m. Thursday to a fight in progress on Union Street. Officers arrived and no one was at the scene. Information was gathered about two females. Officers located a vehicle parked in the Cherry Valley Campgrounds that matched the description of the one that left the scene of the fight. Officer went over to Leetonia and spoke with two females in the vehicle. Both females were warned about their disorderly behavior.
-- An overdose was discovered during a cell check at 6:39 p.m. during booking at the jail, Thursday. Officers administered lifesaving measures and the patient was transported to Salem Regional Hospital.
-- Officers cited Jose Garcia, no age given, Salem at 12:58 p.m. Friday on Park Avenue. A passenger in the car, Miguel Cac, no age given, Columbiana, was cited for open container.
-- A female reported possible identity theft at 12:15 p.m. Friday.
-- Officers cited Anthony Angellone, 25, of East Liverpool, at 6:42 p.m. for possessing an open container of alcoholic beverage during a traffic stop on State Route 7 near Royal Birkdale, Friday.
-- Officers cited Cagney A. Springer, 33, Canton at 12:17 a.m. Friday for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on state Route 7.
-- Officers cited Christopher Craft, 29, Rogers, at 12:26 p.m. Saturday for driving under suspension following a traffic stop at Dairy Queen on state Route 14.
-- Officers were flagged down and advised of a large fire in the backyard of a home at 10:30 p.m. Saturday on North Main Street. The fire was located, and due to high winds, it was causing an immediate risk to surrounding structures. The fire was extinguished and contact with the subject who started it was made. The subject was educated on open burning laws and warned for the violation.
-- Officers cited Cameron Posey, 19, East Palestine, at 3:12 a.m. for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on State Route 14, Sunday.
Salem
-- Officers responded to the 1500 block of Southeast Boulevard at 8:52 p.m. Saturday in after a female juvenile from the home sent social media messages indicating she was inflicting harm to herself. Officers spoke with juvenile and her guardian and found a fresh injury to the juvenile's wrist. Medical personnel arrived and the juvenile was transported to Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman.
-- A Southeast Boulevard resident reported a possible telecommunications scam at 7:51 p.m. Saturday. The officer advised the people involved to block all communications from the person trying to have them send money.
-- Officers responded to the 1000 block of Franklin Avenue at 4:23 p.m. Sunday in reference to a burglary in progress and found an open door. Officers checked the residence and found no one inside. The matter is under investigation.
-- Officers responded to the 900 block of South Union Avenue at 4:03 p.m. Sunday where a resident reported three juveniles had taken his yard markers and walked away with them. A neighbor said the juveniles had also taken her yard markers. The neighbor was able to retrieve some of the yard markers in question, but officers were unable to find the juveniles in question after searching the area.
-- Officers and medical personnel responded to the 900 block of Barclay Avenue at 2:34 p.m. Sunday in reference to an overdose. Officers arrived with medical personnel and found the person in question to be responsive and not having any medical issues.
-- An officer responded to the 900 block of Franklin Avenue at 12:15 p.m. Sunday in reference to a fire alarm and stood by for traffic control until the fire department advised nothing further was needed.
-- Officers met with a female juvenile on station at 12:14 p.m. Sunday who said she had been in an argument with her stepmother and wanted to go home. Officers learned the juvenile had left the stepmother's residence and went to a neighbor's house to call her mother when the stepmother arrived at the neighbor's home and agreed to take the juvenile to the police station. The juvenile's mother agreed to retrieve the juvenile.
-- An individual at 12:10 p.m. Sunday dropped off at the police station a small baggie containing an unknown substance found in the 100 block of Jennings Avenue. The item was found not to be suspicious and was disposed of.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at 11:58 a.m. Sunday in reference to someone throwing pop cans onto the overpass. Officers were unable to find the person in question.
-- Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 10:55 a.m. Sunday in reference to a stolen vehicle found in a parking lot. The vehicle's owner was contacted and responded to retrieve the vehicle.
-- Officers responded to the Salem hospital at 7:06 a.m. Sunday in reference to a combative patient in the emergency room. Officers assisted hospital staff members with the person in question until the person became calm.
-- Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 5:36 a.m. Sunday where a resident reported he believed someone had been attempting to enter his apartment. Officers advised the resident of his options..
