County Sheriff
-- A state Route 14, Unity Township, resident reported at 2:15 p.m. Friday he is having problems with his newspaper delivery person. Deputies suggested a couple options to remedy the situation.
-- A state Route 45, Salem Township, woman reported people were trespassing on her property at 9:50 p.m. Sunday.
-- A Woodsdale Road, Butler Township, man was served a protection order at 5:28 p.m. Monday issued by Hancock County Magistrate Court in West Virginia.
-- Someone reported several men attempting to enter an apartment on Rose Drive in Center Township at 8:09 p.m. Monday. Deputies spoke to the manager and learned the men are allowed to be there.
Highway Patrol
-- Devon R. Ritchie, 25, Salem, was cited for OVI and failure to control at 3:10 a.m. Aug. 15. Ritchie was traveling on state Route 11 in Fairfield Township when she drove off the left side of the road, striking two embankments in the median.
-- Christian M. Ruble, 21, Beloit, was cited for failure to control after he drove off the left side of the road while traveling on state Route 344 in Fairfield Township and struck a hay bale and a guy wire at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 19.
-- Michael F. Mattingly, 58, Kent, was traveling on state Route 7 in Saline Township when he struck a tree in the roadway at 8:51 p.m. Aug. 18. He was not cited due to the tree not being visible prior to impact. Wellsville Fire Department assisted with clean up at the scene due to the semi-truck leaking two to three gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway after the collision.
Wellsville
-- The investigation continues into a vandalism complaint at 10:33 a.m. Aug. 1 in the 1800 block of Clark Avenue. According to the alleged victim, an identified subject broke a window out of her apartment around 4:28 p.m. Aug. 5 with rocks or pieces of asphalt, before back towards his residence, according to footage from a nearby security camera.
-- Janet Birch, no address given, requested a police report at 6:12 p.m. Aug. 21, after she allegedly backed into a brown dumpster with her 2013 Chrysler 200 in the Huntington Bank parking lot and caused damage to the right side of her rear bumper.
-- A vehicle was reported stolen and entered into L.E.A.D.S. sometime after 7:03 p.m. Aug. 22 from the 400 block of Aten Avenue.
-- Scott Whitaker, no address listed, was arrested at 12:33 p.m. Aug. 21 on a charge of disorderly conduct with persistence in the area of 19th And Chester, where officers responded to a call regarding a man lying in the ditch. Upon contact, Whitaker appeared to be intoxicated and showing signs of such. He also was found to possess four pills that Whitaker said was Vicodin within a cigar pack and couldn't find proof they had been prescribed. After arriving at the police department, Whitaker continued to be belligerent and kicked the door to the station. The pills will be sent to the crime lab for analysis with results possibly resulting in an additional charges.
-- Patricia Defrancesco reported at 6:26 p.m. Aug. 22 that an Amazon driver operating a Penske truck sideswiped her parked vehicle in the 300 block of Highland Avenue right before noon and the incident was caught on camera. She has filed a claim with Amazon.
Liverpool Township
-- Charges may be pending regarding a fight 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of Orchard between neighbors.
-- A woman reported at 5:01 pm. Friday in the 800 Price Street that someone had broke into her house, although nothing appeared missing.
-- A police officer dispatched a pet dog that was severely injured at 12:38 a.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Campground Road at the request of the owner, after he had responded to a crash without injury. The man had chased his dog into the roadway and a woman missed hitting the man, but struck the dog causing paralysis and brain damage.
Salem
-- Police at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday checked on a custody dispute on North Lincoln Avenue where a woman reported a family member wanted to take her child to their residence without consent. Officers explained the custody laws to the relative.
-- Officers stood by at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday while the city housing inspector issued a minor misdemeanor citation to James Peck for failure to vacate a condemned residence at 606 Olive St., which had been his residence. Police had been called to the same property at 9:03 a.m. Monday for a report of people living on the front porch. The property had been condemned on July 26. When police arrived, it was obvious people had been living there. They were told they were trespassing and had one hour to vacate the premises or be charged with criminal trespass.
-- Police responded at 9:04 a.m. Tuesday to Salem Regional Medical Center for a combative patient and assisted staff until she was under control.
-- The city street department reported two illegally parked vehicles on Fair Avenue at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday. The owners moved the vehicles. At 11:15 a.m. Monday, the street department advised no parking signs had been put up in the 100 block of West Seventh Street for a paving project and there were several vehicles parked on the street. Police contacted the drivers and had the vehicles moved.
-- Police were called at 7:42 a.m. Tuesday to the 500 block of Aetna for a distraught female who was going around to multiple houses knocking on doors for an unknown reason. Officers made contact with the woman who then started to walk away from them and failed to comply when asked multiple times to stop. Deanna Moschella, 41, East Third Street, was taken into custody for obstruction of official business, but on the way to jail, she advised of a medical emergency. Fire department medics and EMT responded and she was taken to the hospital for evaluation. A warrant was going to be issued for the obstruction charge.
-- A caller at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday reported receiving a counterfeit $5 bill (motion picture money) in change from a local business.
-- An irate male was reported at 2:06 a.m. Tuesday at Speedway gas station on West State Street, but left before police arrived.
-- Cassandra Salokangas, 31, of West Seventh Street, was charged with domestic violence after police were asked at 10 p.m. Monday to check on the well-being of a male and two juveniles on West Seventh Street. Police found that a domestic occurred between a mother and daughter and the mother left due to the altercation and went to the hospital to be treated. Upon investigation, police found the daughter to be the aggressor and placed her in custody. Salokangas was taken to jail.
-- Police at 9:44 p.m. Monday saw an open gate at a closed business in the 2300 block of East State Street and noticed a vehicle inside the fenced area with the brake lights on. The vehicle was unoccupied and the business was secure. The business owner responded and said the vehicle was there for some work. He re-secured the gate.
-- A caller a 8:49 p.m. Monday reported smelling burning trash in the area of Cleveland and Hawley. The fire department also responded. Police checked on two small fires in back yards, one on Cleveland and one on Hawley, finding both were legal. The fire department found no illegal burns.
-- Police responded with fire department medics and KLG at 7:11 p.m. Monday to a medical emergency in the city, with a man taken to the hospital.
-- A caller at 6:42 p.m. Monday reported possible shots fired in the 100 block of West State Street, but nothing was found.
-- A solicitor was reported at 6:34 p.m. Monday in the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Police made contact and sent him on his way.
-- Police responded at 5:42 p.m. Monday to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard for suspicious activity involving a group of males knocking on several apartment doors. They left in a vehicle before police arrived.
-- Police were called at 4:51 p.m. Monday to the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge for a civil matter. The legal eviction process was explained to both people involved.
-- Police at 4:22 p.m. Monday spoke with a person in the 700 block of East Fourth Street regarding a civil matter, telling them to go to the courthouse in Lisbon to file any paperwork.
-- Police responded at 3:22 p.m. Monday for a theft at Walmart and learned enroute the suspects had left in a vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle on East State Street and identified the people involved. The driver, Darby Mayhew, 40, East Sixth Street, was cited for reckless operation. Trent Marcum, 25, North Madison Avenue, was taken into custody on a warrant and charged with two counts of theft. Another female, Shayla Demarcos, 28, Youngstown, was told a summons would be issued against her for two counts of theft and two counts of drug paraphernalia. She wasn't taken into custody immediately due to being pregnant.
-- Officers at 2:53 p.m. Monday responded with Washingtonville Police to a property in the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue to check for a person with an active warrant. The person was placed in custody by Washingtonville Police.
-- A woman reported at 2:24 p.m. Monday that a suspicious female approached her vehicle in the 600 block of East Third Street and started making threatening comments before leaving the area.
-- A suspicious person was reported at 11:32 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue, but was not found.
-- A West Third Street resident reported at 11:27 a.m. Monday that he received a suspicious call about a motor vehicle accident. He said he wasn't in any accident.
-- A dog was reported at large at East State Street and Park Avenue at 10:29 a.m. Monday. The person who caught the dog flagged down officers who took the dog to the humane officer.
-- A suspicious, foul odor was reported at 10:01 a.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge. The caller said she believed the apartment nearby was vacant, but that an animal may have gotten trapped inside and died. The landlord was contacted.
-- A suspicious male was reported sleeping near apartments in the 500 block of East State Street at 9:20 a.m. Monday. Police told him he can't be sleeping on private property and sent him on his way.
-- A reckless operator was reported at 8:25 p.m. Sunday in the Walmart parking lot on East State Street, but the vehicle had already left.
-- A domestic was reported at 8:19 p.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge Drive where a woman said her daughter had been verbally abusive and she wanted her removed. She has her own residence. Police gave the daughter a courtesy ride to state Route 45.
-- A woman was at the police station at 6:42 p.m. Sunday reporting leg pain and anxiety. Fire department medics and KLG arrived and she was taken to the hospital.
-- Police were asked at 5:19 p.m. Sunday to check an infant in the 300 block of South Ellsworth Avenue for signs of abuse. Officers spoke with the mother and observed the child and left.
-- Police responded at 4:45 p.m. Sunday to Columbia Street where a male juvenile got into a verbal and physical altercation with his mother who then left with her boyfriend before officers arrived. Police spoke with her by phone and asked her to come back. The juvenile had cut marks on his arms near his elbows. First responders arrived and took him to the hospital. His mother told police she was just defending herself from her son who attacked her over a verbal altercation. Another juvenile in the home left with their father before she arrived. The hospitalized juvenile was placed in the care of his grandfather.
-- Caitlin Cornell, 18, East Perry Street, was charged with theft and taken to jail after police were called to Walmart on East State Street at 1:42 p.m. Sunday for a woman who failed to scan $77 worth of merchandise at the self checkout and attempted to leave the store.
-- A man from Jefferson Avenue called at 1:16 p.m. Sunday to report purchases were made on his mother's one account that she did not make. He said the items were being shipped to another state. He was told to contact the company regarding the purchase.
-- Two dogs were reported left in a vehicle for an hour at Walmart at 11:47 a.m. Sunday. Officers made contact with the owner who said she was only in the store 10 minutes and the dogs were fine.
-- Police were called at 9:28 a.m. Sunday to the Walmart parking lot for a person who appeared to be sleeping in a vehicle. Police learned she was an employee taking a brief nap while on break.
-- A water line break was reported at 4:57 a.m. Sunday at South Broadway and Franklin. The water department was contacted to respond since it appeared to need immediate action.
-- A caller at 10:24 p.m. Sunday reported two suspicious people looking into vehicles in the 500 block of Fair Avenue and then fleeing on foot. They were not found.
Perry Township
-- Police responded at 12:18 p.m. Sunday to Salem Hills golf course on state Route 45 to assist Goshen Township Police with a large fight that occurred at a golf outing. Officers assisted with scene control until no longer needed.
-- Ashley Sumpter, 30, Lake Milton, was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence and speeding after a traffic stop at 2:53 a.m. Sunday on West Pidgeon Road at state Route 45.
-- Police were called at 10:01 a.m. Saturday to a medical incident in the 400 block of Brittany Lane, standing by until the person was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
-- Vincent Price, 50, Alliance, was cited for driving under suspension and expired registration after police at 8:12 p.m. Friday came upon a disabled box truck on state Route 344 near Chestnut Grove Road. The vehicle was towed.
-- A caller at 2:54 p.m. Friday reported a female walking on state Route 9 near Hunt Road who seemed distraught. Officers spoke with the female, who was just walking and was all right.
