Perry Township

-- Police were called at 8:57 p.m. Tuesday to Painter Road near Egypt Road for a tree in the road. Officers were able to clear the tree and debris from the road.

-- Diane Bates, 61, of Salem, was cited for failure to control after her eastbound vehicle traveled off of Prospect Street near Salem Acres and went into a ditch at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

-- Austen Keshock, 19, of Salem, was cited for failure to control after the vehicle he was driving went off of the right side of the road on state Route 14 near Allen Road at 3:39 p.m. Monday, struck a guardrail and came to rest in a ditch. No injury was reported.

-- Randy Witherow, 53, of Salineville, was cited for failure to reinstate after a traffic stop at 10:34 p.m. Tuesday at South Ellsworth and Wilson. K-9 Simon indicated to the odor of narcotics and a probable cause search was done. The vehicle was towed and Witherow was given a ride.

-- Officers on patrol at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of East Sixth Street located a person on the playground of the church. He said he was just swinging on the swings to clear his head. He left without incident.

-- A suspicious vehicle was reported at 10:01 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Benton Road. No criminal activity was found.

-- Sebring Police called at 8:23 p.m. Tuesday for a well-being check on a driver on West State Street, saying officers stopped on U.S. Route 62 outside the city to assist the driver, who appeared to be confused. The vehicle was last seen traveling east, but was not located by Salem officers.

-- A person with a knife was reported at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Fair Avenue where a male had knocked on a residence with a knife before fleeing in an unknown direction. Officers searched the area extensively but did not find the person. The caller and a witness gave voluntary statements to be sent to the prosecutor for review. The incident is under investigation with possible charges pending.

-- Police were called at 5:42 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Benton Road for a suspicious male jumping in and out of the ditch picking things up. Police found the person walking on West State Street at Sharp Avenue. He said he was just picking up aluminum cans to recycle and showed officers the cans.

-- Joseph Humphries, 55, of Salem-Unity Road, was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to jail after a traffic stop at 5:19 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Benton Road for several traffic violations. His passenger, Mark Menough, 59, of Lisbon Road, was taken into custody on a warrant for failure to appear on a drug paraphernalia charge. He was turned over to sheriff deputies. K-9 Simon indicated to the presence of a narcotic odor and several items of contraband were recovered from the vehicle.

-- Belinda Buchanan, 53, of Berlin Center, was cited for failure to yield after her vehicle turned southbound on South Howard from West State and collided with a southbound vehicle on South Howard driven by Douglas Baddeley, 57, of Washingtonville, at 4:59 p.m. Tuesday. Both drivers declined medical attention.

-- Police responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 4:26 p.m. Tuesday for a person to be removed from a business. The caller reported a relative of one of the employees keeps coming into the business into the shop area. She's been asked to leave and she refuses. Police made contact with the female by phone and told her not to return to the business or she'll face charges.

-- Officers were asked to check the welfare of a person in the 1700 block of East State Street at 2:06 p.m. Tuesday. Officers spoke with the man and due to the circumstances, called for first responders and an ambulance. The man was taken to the hospital.

-- A water cap was reported creating a traffic hazard at 2:01 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of East State Street. The water department responded to fix the cap.

Salem Township

A state Route 558 man reported someone opened a claim for unemployment under his name. He checked his credit report, placed alerts on them and attempted to cancel the claim.
