County Sheriff
— A deputy checked the area of state Route 164 in Center Township at 10 p.m. Monday on a report that a man was on other people’s property. The deputy did not find anyone.
— A deputy responded to the area of Kensington Street in Hanover Township at 8:14 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic and met with highway patrol troopers who were with someone on state Route 45 and found that it was not a domestic incident, but a theft offense. The deputy followed Kristen Dow to Canal Street where the theft occurred and Dow signed a refusal to prosecute. The suspect brought the lawn mower back that he removed from the property without the Dow’s consent.
— A deputy was called to 12401 DeSellem Road in Madison Township at 9 p.m. Monday for a report of domestic dispute. The deputy spoke with Amanda Garretson who said she did not want to file charges of domestic violence. The deputy then spoke with the other person involved, who was Jason Barnes, age and address not listed. Barnes was then placed under arrest on an unrelated warrant.
— A deputy was called to 23161 Mountz Road in West Township at 3:20 p.m. Monday for a welfare check at the request of Minerva Middle School. The school asked deputies to check on a 14-year-old boy due to him missing a lot of school. The deputy checked the home and noticed the grass was high and no vehicles were on the property. The deputy was unable to reach anyone at the home.
— Deputies were called to 5613 state Route 9 in Butler Township at 5:26 p.m. May 31 for a report of neighbor arguing. Deputies spoke to Joann Martin, Timothy Phillips and Kenneth Beeson. Beeson, who owns the property, wanted Martin and Phillips to leave the property due to Martin’s child. Beeson reportedly confronted the child and Martin refused to press charges. Phillips also allegedly got upset and punched the window in his truck breaking the window. No one wished to press charges and deputies left the property without any further problems.
— Deputies were called to the area of 13675 old state Route 45 in Madison Township at 6:43 p.m. May 28 for a report of a neighborhood problem. Deputies spoke with Jon Jenkins who said that his small child was throwing bean bags for corn hole and accidentally threw a bag onto the neighbor’s property. Jenkins reported that he went over to the neighbor’s and asked the resident, Michael Rosati, if he could get the bean bag for the children and that Rosati told him to get off his property. Jenkins also reported that Rosati later came out of his house with a small ax and walked to get the bag and returned the bag over the fence while displaying the ax. It was also reported that once Ronald Venezia heard about what happened he went down the street to confront Rosati and the police were called. Everyone involved wanted to resolve the issue as neighbors and did not file charges. Deputies told them to stay away from each other.
— Tara Cusick, Cameron Road, Wellsville, reported at 8:44 a.m. Thursday she believed someone had attempted to steal her vehicle.
— Matt Hahlen of Alliance reported at 9:55 a.m. Thursday he has a business and an employee was caught with drug paraphernalia and pills by another employee. Hahlen reported that after the employee was fired he began to send social messages to the employee that reported him. Hahlen also reported that the fired employee was sending him text messages as well. Hahlen told a deputy that he has instructed his employees not to respond to the man.
Highway Patrol
— Charlene R. Haddox, 81, Beaver Falls, Pa., was stopped at a sign on state Route 170 in Middleton Township at 7:54 p.m. June 2 and was struck from behind by an ATV, which continued on without stopping.
— Rachel Dawn Noviski, 24, state Route 45, Lisbon, was eastbound on state Route 518 in Wayne Township at 2:14 p.m. Monday and went off the right side into a ditch. She was cited for failure to control.
East Palestine
— Police initiated a traffic stop on East Taggart Street at 9:56 p.m. Wednesday and found an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. A passenger, Christian Freeland, 18, Warren, was charged underage consumption. Two children in the vehicle were taken to the police station and released to their parents and guardians. The female driver, not identified in the report, had not been drinking and was warned for driving without headlights.
— Police were called to the 1000 block of North Market Street at 7:46 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a disturbance between a man and a woman. The caller reported that they saw the man hitting the woman and the woman walked away. Police found the woman walking on Howell Avenue, and and told police she had been in a shoving match with her boyfriend. She told police she had not been injured in any way and did not wish to pursue charges. Police also spoke with the man, who provided the same story and declined to press charges as well.
— Police were called to the 70 block of South Walnut Street at 3:58 p.m. June 1 for a report that a person who is not allowed to be in that area was there. Police searched but did not find the person.
— Ashley L. Davis, West Clark Street, reported at 7 p.m. June 1 her mother-in-law was harassing her over the phone. Police suggested Davis get a protection order against her mother-in-law. Davis told police she did not want them to talk to her mother-in-law but only wanted to make a report.
— A woman requested at 7:34 p.m. June 1 police conduct a welfare check on her grandson whom she felt was being left in the care of an inappropriate relative. Police made contact with the parent on West Clark Street, and she said she did not leave the children that day. Police also checked the home due to the caller’s insistence that the living conditions were not acceptable. Police found the home was in good condition and children were not living in filth as described by the caller. Police did notice several zoning violations and referred those to the zoning officer.
— Brandon Stone, age and address not listed, was cited for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on East Rebecca Street at 11:45 p.m. June 1.
— Police were called to the area of Family Dollar for a report that a dog was yelping at 8:20 p.m. Saturday. Police sat in the area and did not hear a dog, but did hear a noise coming from a home on East Taggart Street. Police went to the house and found a group of people having a fire. Police also saw a dog there but it was not injured.
— Police saw two people walking along Park Drive at 10 p.m. Saturday and the people hid inside the softball field dug outs. Police spoke with the people and told them they needed to leave as the park closed at 10 p.m.
— A woman requested at 11:57 p.m. Saturday police contact her boyfriend to find out where he was with her children and why he was not answering her calls or text messages. Police made contact with a family member of the man who said he was not to return the children until noon on the following day.
— Joseph Windell, Alice Street, requested an ambulance at his home at 2:54 p.m. Sunday, but the call was cut off. Police went to the home and found that Windell was calling for his roommate, David Sherrill, but Sherrill hung up the phone because he did not want an ambulance.
— An East Rebecca Street man reported at 4:37 p.m. Sunday no one had seen his neighbor for several days and requested police conduct a welfare check. Police eventually gained access into the neighbor’s apartment and found that he had been sick but did not wan an ambulance or other assistance.
— Police were called to the James Street railroad tracks at 11 p.m. Sunday for a report of a woman sitting on the tracks. Police spoke to the woman who said that she had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend and was sitting on the tracks to cool off. The woman also told police that she did not believe that the side of the tracks she was sitting on were active. Police told her that both sides were active and she could not be sitting on them. Police took the woman back to her home and told her to stay inside for the night.
— Someone reported anonymously at 1:12 a.m. Monday three kids were in the area of East Clark Street and Columbia Street. Police found two kids on James Street near the railroad tracks. They were released to their parents for discipline.
— Someone reported anonymously at 2 p.m. Monday a home on North Walnut Street had been burglarized and several items taken. An investigation is pending.
— A West Martin Street woman reported at 3:17 p.m. Monday her neighbors were setting off fireworks. Police checked and found no one outside at the home where the fireworks were allegedly being set off.
— A Neely Manor resident reported at 3:46 p.m. Monday an elderly man that seemed confused was walking down Brookdale Avenue. Police and members of the local fire department searched for the man before eventually finding him at a relative’s home unharmed.
— A woman reported at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday her cell phone, ID and bank card were lost or stolen somewhere between the Stateline Tavern and East Taggart Street laundromat during the night.
— Police accompanied the Ohio Division of Liquor Control to the Eagles Club on East Taggart Street at 7 p.m. Tuesday to investigate anonymous complaints. The complaints were discovered to be unfounded.
— Police were called to 674 Brookdale Ave. at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday after George Eaton reported he thought someone had tried to enter his home although he did not see or hear anyone. Police searched both inside and outside the home and did not find anyone around or see anything suspicious.
— Police were called to 457 E. North Ave. at 3:22 a.m. Wednesday for a report that neighbor kids were throwing water balloons at the home and causing dirt and debris to make a mess of the front porch. Police spoke with Mary Carnes at 465 E. North Ave. as well as her son and his friend. Police forwarded the matter to the juvenile court, as it was not the first time a similar incident happened at that address.
— While running radar on West Martin Street at 9:24 a.m. Wednesday police spotted a German shepherd dog running loose. Police spoke with a woman who said she believed the dog belonged to someone on the corner of West Clark and Vine streets. Police tried contacting someone at that address but no one was home. A neighbor then told police that he would let the dog’s owners know it was out. The homeowner then came home and let the dog back inside. The homeowner was warned that they could be cited if the dog got loose again.
— Police were called to the 600 block of Alice Street at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday to take a complaint of mini bikes being driven on the road. Police were able to locate the bike on Alice Street and warned people that if they were caught riding on the road again they would be charged.
— Police were called to the 500 block of Grandview Avenue at 2:17 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a suspicious vehicle in someone’s driveway. Police did not find the vehicle.
— Zoning violation notices for high grass were sent to the following on Monday: 806 N. Market St.; 457 W. Martin St.; 684 E. Main St.; 457 E. Clark St.; 555 W. North Ave.; 585 W. Clark St.; 164 S. Market St.; 210 Garfield Ave.; 140 Ashley Lane; and 328 E. Clark St.

Steubenville
— Police arrested Joseph Cassella, 27, 335 Lee Way, Chester, W.Va., on a breaking and entering warrant out of Hancock County, W.Va., Tuesday.
Salem
— A woman and her juvenile granddaughter reported on station at 12:28 p.m. Thursday that the granddaughter had been shopping at a 2800 block East State Street business and had her wallet containing an envelope with $118 inside sitting in the top section of the shopping cart. The granddaughter said she was looking at wallets and noticed the envelope missing when she left the area.
— Sheldon J. Ludt, 22, West Main Street, Washingtonville, was arrested on a warrant out of the county for failure to appear on an underage consumption charge after an officer observed him driving in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 3:42 p.m. Thursday and knew him to have a warrant for his arrest.
— Police responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fifth Street at 6:03 p.m. Thursday in reference to a man striking a teenage girl and throwing her to the ground. Officers located the people involved and found that the man had slapped his granddaughter for being verbally disrespectful to his wife. The girl had no injuries but said her grandfather had also thrown her to the ground and punched her. The matter was forwarded to Children Services.
— An officer responded to an 800 block Highland Avenue home at 6:38 p.m. Thursday after a man flagged him down in reference to a computer fraud case in which his client had provided her bank number to a caller who claimed to be working for Microsoft stating her computer had a virus.
— An officer responded to the Waterworth Memorial dog park at 8:45 p.m. Thursday where someone reported a vicious dog had bitten her dog. The owner of the suspected dog had already left, but the officer was able to locate the vehicle in which they left. The owner said that the two pit bulls had been playing too rough and had cornered the other dog, but that they did not bite the other dog. No injury was found on the other dog, but the owner said she was concerned about future incidents.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 7:51 a.m. Thursday where a man reported someone he knows was dumping trash in his dumpster. Officers contacted the other person who agreed to remove the items.
— Officers responded to a 1400 block Oak Street home at 12:36 p.m. Thursday in reference to an unruly juvenile and found that the juvenile was upset because her mother would not let her go to the pool. She was advised that she had to listen to her mother.
— Officers responded to a verbal dispute in the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 3:06 p.m. Thursday and found that two women had arrived at the home to confront a female resident who they said made a statement to one of their children. The women were advised to leave the property.
— Officers responded to an 800 block Summit Street home at 5:14 p.m. Thursday in reference to a dispute and found that the male resident was intoxicated and attempting to take keys from the female resident, who struck him in the nose with a shoe during the scuffle. Medical personnel responded, but the man declined treatment. Neither resident wished to press charges.
— Officers responded to a 1400 block East State Street home at 11:11 p.m. Thursday where the resident reported her 14-year-old female ward had run away on foot and that she did not want the girl returned to the home due to issues with her and the other children at the home. The teen was located and returned to the home to discuss her actions, at which time she was charged with domestic violence and transported to the Tobin Center.
— A man reported on station at 11:52 p.m. Thursday a man he knows had been following him in the streets threatening him with physical violence. The man requested an escort back to his vehicle in the 100 block of North Lincoln Street where the man was supposed to be waiting. Officers were unable to find the man in question.
— An officer responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:04 a.m. Friday where someone reported seeing two individuals enter a vehicle at the apartment complex then run away when they saw him. The door of the vehicle was still open and it appeared to have been ransacked. The owner of the vehicle said there did not appear to be anything missing.
Goshen Police District
— Eric Dean White, 25, East Pidgeon Road, Salem, was charged with OVI and open container after a traffic stop at state Routes 14 and 165 at 1:23 a.m. Monday.
Salem
— The fire department responded to an open burning complaint in the 700 block of Southeast Boulevard at 7:57 p.m. Thursday and had to explain the open burning laws to the resident multiple times before extinguishing the fire.
— The fire department responded to a carbon monoxide detector going off at a 600 block East Third Street home at 10:10 p.m. Thursday and determined it to be a faulty detector.
— The fire department responded the 100 block of Railroad Street at 1:13 p.m. Friday in reference to low hanging utility wires and found that the pole was leaning but causing no immediate hazard. Ohio Edison was contacted.
