SALEM — A Salem house fire Wednesday afternoon resulted in the death of several animals. According to a Facebook post by the Salem Fire Department, the department responded to a house fire in the 800 block of Highland Avenue, finding heavy smoke in the rear of the structure. In a separate post by the Columbiana County Humane Society, agent Fabian Pike confirmed there were a total of seven animals on site. Three dogs were saved while four cats perished. SALEM — Multiple departments responded to a house fire on Third Street Friday. The Salem Fire Department was notified at 10:50 p.m. Friday that the porch of the residence at 1134 E. Third St. had caught fire. When firefighters arrived, all residents had already evacuated the home, but two cats were still inside the residence. A 1.75-inch hose line was advanced to the rear of the residence, and the rear porch was extinguished. St. Clair Township — Officers found a female with a cigarette in her mouth passed out in her vehicle on Aug. 21 on state Route 170. A passerby had woken the female up. The female told officers she works at Amazon and has been on mandatory overtime. Officers asked the female if there was anything illegal in her car and told them the only thing she uses is Kratom.
