City council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize City Service Safety Director Joe Cappuzzello to purchase road salt by advertising for bids with the Columbiana County Engineer’s Office and entering a contract for the purchase rather than participating in the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)’s annual contract. Council left the decision to Safety Service Director Bill Jones after discussion at council’s July 6 meeting in which Jones reported a substantial price increase in the salt from $58 per ton last year to $151.85 per ton (a 262% price increase) for this year.
