Driver accused of killing a pedestrian to face jury trial Jan. 26

LISBON — The driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene in East Liverpool on Feb. 4 won’t face a jury trial until 9 a.m. Jan. 26 next year. Tracy C. Quimby, 34, last known address Jackman Street, East Liverpool, also with an address in Hookstown, Pa., appeared Friday for a pretrial hearing before Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton. Man who directed fraud scheme from India gets 9 years

The two Chaudharys, Shreyas Baldevbhai Chaudhary and Trusha Chaudhary, learned their sentences this week in U.S. District Court in Cleveland, with Shreyas Baldevbhai Chaudhary, 25, who directed the $5 million fraud targeting the elderly, being sentenced to more than nine years in prison and Trusha Chaudhary, one of his accomplices, getting probation. Among the victims was a 77-year-old man from Salem, who gave up $61,000 to the scammers and nearly gave up another $50,000 but his bank suspected fraud and contacted the FBI, which set up a sting operation. Man charged with sex crimes to face trial Feb. 9

LISBON — A man accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old child earlier this year is scheduled to face a jury trial on Feb. 9 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. Wayne R. Tate, 51, Broadway Avenue, Wellsville, appeared Friday for a pretrial before Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton, accompanied by defense attorney James Melfi, who was there on behalf of Tate’s defense attorney David Betras. Riverview Cemetery Association (RCA) officers Stephanie Grey (president), Jayma Wilson (vice president) and Catherine Vodrey (secretary) decided recently against re-launching the former Riverview website, as Facebook is cost-free and has a built-in audience.
