EAST PALESTINE -- The village has accepted a bid for the new Government Services Complex.
During the regular meeting on Monday village council accepted the lowest bid submitted, which was from Brock Builders & Associates.
The base bid amount was $14.4 million and the alternatives were $206,000, $222,000, and $35,900.
Village Manager Antonio Diaz-Guy said the final contract is not complete yet but the Engineer's Recommendation Letter and Village Documents are prepared to accept and bind the contract.
The new complex will move village offices and public safety services into one 39,000-square-foot building farther away from the railroad tracks.
Currently, village administrative offices are located at 85 N. Market St. while police are located at 75 E. Main St., and the fire and EMS services are located at 67 E. Clark St.
Nearly $16 million was previously made available in the form of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Community Facilities Disaster Assistance program grant for the project.
Also during the council meeting council heard from Diaz-Guy who is recommending updates to some existing job descriptions.
He explained that some existing Job Descriptions within the village do not meet his expectation of sufficient detail, including working environment, physical requirements, etc.
"We are planning to update the job descriptions to resolve those gaps," he said.
The updates are not required and would apply to only non-bargaining employees, he added.
