Water break repaired and boil order lifted

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- Residents who were left without water following a main line break on John Campbell Road Monday morning had water fully restored around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Residents in St. Clair and Liverpool townships and Glenmoor were under a boil order issued by the Buckeye Water District (BWD) during and following the repair until water samples were tested and returned showing the water was bacteria free and potable.

John Gentile, superintendent, removed the boil order around 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Gentile estimated approximately 2,500 residential and business customers were without water for approximately 40 hours while the crew worked around the clock to repair the damage to a 16-inch water line, release air from connecting lines to avoid any further damage, and slowly restore the water and fill the two tanks.

The water outage resulted in the closure of schools and multiple businesses which were unable to operate without a water supply.

Gentile estimated approximately 350,000 gallons of water were lost from the two water tanks as a result of the damage caused by a contractor boring into the ground to lay fiber optic lines.

Gentile does not yet have a total cost for the repairs, but estimated it will be thousands of dollars. He previously said he would be sending an invoice to the fiber optics company for the repair costs.

"Everything is back to normal and I really appreciate all the customers' patience during the issue," Gentile said. "The crews did the best they could as fast as they could to get everything restored."
