SALEM -- Salem Kiwanis will be hosting a luncheon honoring local veterans.

The sixth annual Kiwanis Veterans Luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall at 1151 E. Sixth St. The luncheon will feature an opening and closing ceremony with color guard, and feature remarks by Master Sgt. Calvin Marshall.

Salem Kiwanis Co-President Debbie Leggett said that attending veterans will receive a ceremonial pin honoring their service. She also said the event will feature information from veteran resource organizations including the Columbiana and Mahoning County Veteran's Services Administration.

Marshall joined the U.S. Army in 1987 as a Combat Telecommunications Center Operator serving just under eight years. In 2001 he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served initially in air transportation and later as Mission Support Group Assistant Career Advisor.

Marshall currently serves as First Sergeant of the 910 Force Support Squadron at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

The luncheon will be completely free of charge for veterans and a guest of their choosing and feature spaghetti and meatballs with choice of white or red sauce, salad, bread and dessert prepared by First Christian Church, and served by members of the Salem Key Club and Kiwanians.

Leggett said that non-veterans who would like to attend the luncheon to help honor the veterans are also welcome to attend.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Doug Falk at 330-853-0158 by Nov. 3. Parking and entry for the luncheon will be available at the rear of the fellowship hall.

Local veterans are also invited to gather and enjoy refreshments and one another's company at the Veterans Cafe, a local program supporting veterans and offering them an opportunity to meet and share their experiences with fellow veterans. The Veterans Cafe meets from 2 to 4 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at Salem AMVETS post 45 at 750 S. Broadway Ave. For any questions or additional information about the Veterans Cafe, contact Leggett at 330-853-3284.
