EAST LIVERPOOL (WKBN) - One person is in custody after an "altercation" at the East Liverpool High School football game on Friday night.

A 19-year-old male was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Saturday and remains in the Columbiana County Jail, according to East Liverpool Dispatch. The suspect's identity has not yet been released in online records.

A news release from the East Liverpool City School District states that the altercation occurred at Patterson Field during a high school football game. The team was facing Brooke.

East Liverpool Dispatch said the incident took place in the men's bathroom. The victim ran out of the bathroom and found an officer nearby.

East Liverpool Fire Department's EMTs provided medical care and transported the victim to the hospital, the release stated.

The East Liverpool Police Department is investigating. Dispatchers say the incident involved a juvenile, but further information was not immediately released early Saturday morning.

In its news release, the school district directed people with information to contact the police department but stated it would not be releasing additional details so as not to interfere with the police investigation.

"The safety of our students, staff, families and community members is our highest priority. Law enforcement is present at all home football games at Patterson Field, and we will continue to work closely with local agencies to review and strengthen the safety measures in place at our facilities. Counselors and support staff will be available to students on Monday, October 26.

Our thoughts are with the individual and family affected, and we ask the community to keep them in mind during this time," read a statement from Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig.
