New Waterford looking at single garbage hauler for residents

By KATIE WHITE 1 min read

NEW WATERFORD -- The village is taking bids to begin contracting with a single garbage hauler for residential service.

Council this month passed a resolution to seek bids for the service and Village Mayor Shane Patrone said the idea is to alleviate wear and tear of local roads.

"This was done to limit the truck sizes and the amount of trucks that use the village streets. The village is paving all of the village streets and this is an attempt to add to the useful life of the roads as well as provide the lowest possible collection rates to our residents," he said.

Currently the village has garbage trucks in the town five days a week and sometimes multiple times a day, he added.

Patrone said all residents will be using the garbage hauler that will be selected for a period of three years. The service is only mandatory for residents.

Collection will be limited to one day between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., Patrone said.

Currently residents choose their own provider.

"The idea is the residents would pay the same or save money. I believe the majority if not all residents will realize some savings," he said.
