LISBON--A new business promises to provide the community with the highest quality food and supplies for their pets.
The newest member of Lisbon's business community, Pet Folk has officially opened their doors, celebrating its soft opening with a ribbon cutting and champagne Thursday.
Located at 7556 state Route 45, Unit A, Pet Folk is entirely locally owned and operated and offers high-quality pet supplies and food for dogs, cats, lizards, fish and birds including feed insects and frozen mice and rats.
Owners Sierra and Thomas Tindell said that Pet Folk focuses on stocking low and single ingredient food and treat options without the artificial fillers found in many brands of pet food and treats.
"We're never going to sell you anything that we wouldn't be happy to give our own animals," Thomas said.
Sierra, who works as a dog groomer in addition to being a first-time business owner, said she was inspired to start Pet Folk by her grooming clients. She explained that pet owners often asked her where they could get high-quality and healthy options for their pets without needing to travel to other communities. She said that while she was already familiar with options for single ingredient treats for dogs like pig and lamb ears as she does dog agility training, which typically utilizes them for healthy training, once she decided to open Pet Folk, she heavily researched healthy food options as well as single ingredient treat options for cats like freeze-dried minnows, salmon, chicken hearts, and rabbit bites.
"We wanted the community to have a pet store that had the needs of their pets in mind at all times," Sierra said.
Sierra said that she and Thomas have tried to form partnerships with both larger companies and smaller local businesses as suppliers for Pet Folk. She and Thomas also said they will work with customers to source any products they may need for their pets that they don't carry in their regular stock, including freeze-dried raw food options for animals with dietary needs.
"If we're ever missing something you need, let us know and we'll work to get it in for you," Thomas said.
Pet Folk also features a unique "treat bar" for dogs. Sierra explained that the treat bar is made up of single-ingredient options for treats and chewing that are intended to provide healthy, digestible alternatives for rawhide bones and chews, which she said are not easily digestible for dogs.
Pet Folk is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
