Today, I wonder if we are really teaching the next generation the true values and morals of the Bible. The news media would definitely say that we are grossly missing the mark. The above passage is not a request but a command from God that says that it should be in our hearts. What should be in our hearts? The first thing He said before this passage was to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength. Second, He said to keep all of His commandments and statutes. With that being said, my question is do we and do our children love the Lord with all of our heart and keep His commandments? The next question is could they recite the ten commandments? If you don't know what the law is, how can you keep it? It is no wonder why we have so much stealing, lying, and sexual immorality that no one goes to church on the sabbath anymore and that fathers and mothers have become a thing of the past because the devil has come and destroyed the unity of marriage. I guess a good question to ask right now, is do we as parents know and can we recite the ten commandments? Probably not. The reason being we have broken the first two commandments tremendously. First, we do not consider God or the Godhead as the one and only God. This nation is worshipping many false gods. Israel did this, and God took his protective hand off of them, and they were destroyed. How can we as a nation expect anything else but this, especially if we do not keep God first in our lives? The second commandment is to not have any other gods before Him which is broken constantly, sometimes daily. We are too busy to pray, too busy to read our Bible, and we have definitely forsaken the church in our attendance. Many people donate to everything but the church which is supposed to be the moral standard for America.
Our verses tell us that we are to teach these verses to our children while they sit in the house, while we are walking, before they go to sleep and when they rise up from their slumber. Are you doing this? If not, I would suggest that you have a lack of respect for God, and your love for God has turned cold, and most important of all you don't really care and have no fear of judgement day. If you want to change America and be blessed by God, you have to follow His commandments and His statutes. To put it into modern day English, to keep His rules and regulations.
I am going to close with a thought to the church. We have closed Sunday school, Wednesday night services, and Sunday night services and only have Sunday morning services. You have decreased the ability of the Holy Spirit to work in our lives by 75 percent. Some of you may say "I am in a bible study three times a week", but are you reading a book or are you reading the bible. Can you define holiness, regeneration, justification, sanctification, holiness lifestyles, important words such as imputed and imparted righteousness? Churches open your doors, do your job, preach the Word and educate your people about the commandments and statutes of God.
