EAST PALESTINE - East Palestine City School District Superintendent Dr. James Rook has been recognized a state level.

Rook recently received the Ohio School Counselor Association (OSCA)'s 2026 Administrator Appreciation Award, one of seven school leaders recognized for their commitment to supporting school counselors and strengthening the role of school counseling in student success.

According to a press release announcing the award, school counselors play an important role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development, helping them navigate challenges, explore future opportunities, and work toward their goals. Strong administrative support helps ensure counselors have the resources, collaboration, and opportunities they need to make a meaningful difference in students' lives.

"These leaders are true champions of school counseling and student success," said Shawn Grime, OSCA executive director. "Their impact on their schools and the school counselors they support is both profound and lasting."

For East Palestine City School District, this recognition highlights the importance of leadership that supports the people working directly with students each day. When school counselors are empowered to do their work effectively, students are better positioned to receive the guidance and support they need to succeed in school and prepare for their futures.
