COLUMBIANA -- The city is in the process of hiring a new wastewater superintendent to replace Brian Dicken, who held the position from 2017 through 2024.
During the most recent City Council meeting council gave a first reading to legislation approving the hiring of Dan Houk as wastewater superintendent.
City Manager Lance Willard said that Houk has been with the city since 2007, serving as foreman for the wastewater treatment plant since 2014.
"I am looking forward to working with him," Willard said during the meeting.
According to the ordinance, Houk will officially start working as wastewater superintendent on Nov. 1.
A separate ordinance was also given a first reading by council that would set Houk's annual salary at $91,000.
In other matters during the meeting, Willard gave updates on several projects that are ongoing in the city.
These include the Beverly Ray and Court and Herbster streets storm water upgrade projects, as well as the North Middle Street sewer line project, and the state Route 14 road widening project.
Willard said the Beverly Ray and Court and Herbster streets projects are mostly completed with the exception of a few "punch list items."
As for North Middle Street, he said the sewer line project behind the Joshua Dixon Elementary School will begin this week.
The state Route 14 road widening project has begun and the city this month attended a project meeting with engineers and Foust Construction, Willard said.
"With all the ongoing projects we are doing our best to provide updates by putting that on the website," he said referring to Columbianaohio.gov.
