LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP -- In preparation for winter, trustees during Tuesday's Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meeting approved several repairs to township vehicles for the police, road and fire departments.
Fire Chief Jacob Russell told the trustees that squad 25 which was worked on at Fairway Ford was originally estimated to cost $1,104, will now cost $3,500 due to the discovery of some new issues with it and squad 22 is being repaired with repairs paid for by fire department organization.
Police Chief Jarod Kinemond said that the No. 7 car had the battery which was covered under warranty replaced, then the car died and needed to be towed. They thought it might be the alternator and then discovered the serpentine belt needed to be replaced.
Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth said the department's 2020 and 2008 trucks both need oil changes before winter, and he would also need to purchase fluid film before winter.
Russell told the trustees that he met with East Liverpool Fire Chief Antony Cumo to update mutual aid items and that North Star had contacted him about EMS classes, wanting to know if any of his members wanted to attend. Russell said that he would like to attend himself and send three other firefighters and that having this training could help with getting more grants for the department. The cost of the class is $1,000, with a large percentage of that reimbursable through the state. The classes won't be held until sometime next year; he just wanted to see if the trustees would be agreeable on himself and three others taking the class.
He also said that he has three firefighters that need to go to Fire School for Volunteer Firefighter Class and get their certification but no classes are available right now. He will keep looking for classes which cost $900 for a firefighter, but the fire department could possibly be reimbursed by the state for the cost.
Kinemond told the trustees that the new bullet proof vests have been received and delivered to the officers and that through several grants they were able to get the vest at almost no cost.
Kinemond also said that he has officers who need to get their firearms qualifications.
Bosworth said the Road Department had to spend time on the dirt roads in the township that were hit hard by recent rains and required grating and gravel and dirt replaced them. The crew has also been working on removing tree limbs that are hanging down from the trees.
There was discussion among the trustees over how to handle several nuisance properties in the township with Trustee Dennis Giambroni saying he would be notifying the property owners of the issues by certified mail.
A resolution to reallocate the appropriations for the General Fund in the amount of $1,601.20 from the Auditing Service line item to the Worker's Compensation line item was approved.
Payment of bills totaling $40,452.99 and the minutes from the Sept. 1 meeting was approved.
The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meet every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Liverpool Township Administration Building, 2485 Boring Lane, East Liverpool, Ohio. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 29.
