LISBON -- The paving of state Route 164 in downtown Lisbon isn't scheduled to happen now until Thursday night into Friday morning, dependent on the weather.
Lisbon Mayor Peter Wilson said Tuesday he's been talking to the Ohio Department of Transportation and with the contractor, Shelley and Sands, repeatedly reminding them the Johnny Appleseed Festival begins Saturday, with setup on Friday and vendors possibly open Friday night.
At this point, the plan is to pave downtown on West Washington from Beaver Street to Market Street and Market Street north to Chestnut Street with the first coat from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.
Wilson also said, though, that he was told if there's any standing water, no paving will be done. Rain is forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday.
On Friday night, Wilson said the paving company plans to work on the area of state Route 164 at the intersection of state Route 517 up to past the cemetery and fairgrounds.
No paving will happen on Saturday or Sunday.
Unrelated to the paving, he said there's a parking ban in effect on the square from 9 a.m. today through 8 a.m. Thursday for the street sweeper.
On Tuesday, Wilson learned about another wrinkle for Lisbon with an email from Ohio Edison about a planned outage for some customers in the village, at 7 p.m. today and 7 p.m. Thursday, each for seven minutes, again dependent on the weather. The email said customers impacted have received notification through electronic messages to the registered phone number on their account.
According to Wilson, the area of the JAF won't be affected. The email noted that in the case of inclement weather, the outage set for tonight will be rescheduled to Thursday and the outage originally set for Thursday will be planned for Saturday.
The email also said at 4 a.m. Sunday, the same customers will be impacted by a planned outage of 15 minutes. If there's inclement weather, the longer outage will be reset to 4 a.m. Monday. All the work is supposed to be performed to improve system reliability.
Wilson acknowledged there may be some hiccups, and he said concerns were voiced to ODOT and the paving contractor regarding the paving schedule, which Lisbon did not control. He's been reporting to council about the paving project and stressed ODOT was told about the Johnny Appleseed Festival. The project is not a village project, but is a state-funded, state project.
"We just ask people to be patient and understanding," Wilson said.
