The Ohio Department of Education released its 2025-2026 School Report Cards on Tuesday.
Districts and schools receive overall ratings of 1-5 stars in half-star increments. A three-star rating meets state standards, a five significantly exceeds them, and a one "needs significant support to meet state standards."
Districts are also rated on six components: achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation, and college, career, workforce, military readiness.
Statewide, the state has made gains in literacy, with statewide English language arts proficiency reaching a five-year high of 62.2%, according to a news release from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's Office.
"Overall, we're pretty happy with 3.5," Lisbon Superintendent Joe Siefke said when contacted.
He said the overall scores for each school building included 3.5 stars overall for David Anderson Jr./Sr. High School and 4.5 stars overall for McKinley Elementary. At McKinley, he noted the high marks of 5 stars each for progress and for gap closing which measure growth and a reduction in educational gaps for students.
He said the district is happy with those numbers, with the progress made, the students closing the gaps and also with achievement on state tests. McKinley scored 4 stars in that area.
For DAHS, the graduate component scored 4 stars. Siefke said the graduation rate continues to be really high at 96 %, adding that's their job, to get the kids graduated.
"We're really happy with that," he said.
In the area of College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness, DAHS scored 5 stars. Siefke said the district is really focused on kids who are leaving and whether they're going to college, the military or some sort of trade to make sure they're getting the proper seals. He explained the seals are industry recognized credentials that may be needed for some jobs.
"We've done a pretty good job of recognizing that some kids don't want to go into college and want to get into the workforce," he said.
The district builds relationships with local companies with the hope of finding jobs locally for students.
As for some of the other components, he said at the high school, the district wants to continue to work on achievement and progress and at McKinley, to continue to work on improving the early literacy score.
"We understand we have some work to do," Siefke said, adding the overall scores show promise.
