SEBRING -- Dozens of B.L. Miller Elementary students didn't begin their school year in typical fashion.
Over 60 students enjoyed an afternoon of swimming at the Alliance YMCA as a reward for completing a summer workbook challenge. Teachers and Nichole Hanley, principal of B.L. Miller Elementary, escorted students for the special field trip, starting the year with a splash.
Each summer, Hanley challenges students to complete a workbook during summer break. The challenge aims to keep students scholastically engaged, making for an easier transition back to school. The challenge was so successful that 61 students were treated to an afternoon of swimming to celebrate their accomplishments.
