EAST PALESTINE -- The East Palestine School District has partnered with a non-profit organization to help with workforce readiness and career-technical education partnerships.
The Board of Education approved a contract in August with Team Workforce of Youngstown at a cost of $197,465.
According to the agreement, Team Workforce will provide leadership and coordination for the district's workforce readiness, career-technical education partnerships, career pathways, business engagement and post secondary transition initiatives.
Services included in the contract include the Life Discovery Program, as well as Life Discovery administrative services, professional development, and program coordination.
Also included is college, career, and military readiness consultation, among other services.
The contract is effective immediately and is for the 2026-27 school year.
The board also approved several agreements with other entities for educational services, including the Mahoning Valley Community School, Columbiana County Educational Service Center, and the Community College of Beaver County.
The agreement with Beaver County is for dual-enrollment for students.
A contract was also approved with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio for substitute teacher services for the 2026-27 school year.
Furthermore, the board approved the classified staff resignations of Laura Boyer, elementary school secretary, and Laura Buelow, one-hour elementary aide; and Melissa Gatchel, Connie Offenburg, and Robin Downey as part-time Title 1 staff at the elementary school, and Sandra Walker as part-time Title 1 staff at the middle school.
Also approved was the administrative resignation of Rick Shepas as Director of Workforce Development, and a shared service agreement for the transportation supervisor.
The next meeting was set for 6 p.m. Sept. 8.
