EAST PALESTINE -- The village's full-time marketing position may be changing in the near future.
Village Council gave first reading to legislation allowing for a change in the position during the most recent meeting.
Specifically, the legislation will allow for the current full-time position to be either a full or part-time position based on need.
Village Manager Antonio Diaz-Guy said after the meeting that the person currently filling the role may relocate out of state.
"After reassessing our needs and the work being complete, council and I discussed at the meeting the interest in being able to fulfill this position on either a part-time or full-time basis," he said.
He added that changing the position for full or part-time will allow the village more flexibility moving forward to ensure that the role fulfills the village's needs while also being responsible with the funds committed to the position.
Council also gave a second reading to legislation establishing the new emergency dispatcher supervisor position.
Diaz-Guy also provided updates on the Park Project, noting that Phase 3 is still moving forward despite rainy conditions causing excessive moisture in the playground area.
He said that the problem is being addressed and the playground equipment is expected to be delivered in mid-to-late October.
He also said after the meeting that the village continues to pursue infrastructure grants to improve bridges and culverts.
"The county will be undertaking a Bridge Replacement Project on the Small Brookdale Bridge this month, which is expected to take approximately 150 days," he said.
During the development and finance report portion of the meeting it was announced that 44 residential permits were issued in the month of August bringing in $1,776 in revenue while commercial permits through Elevate for contractor registrations totaled $1,150.
As for the safety committee report, it was noted that seven calls were dropped during the month of August for the fire and EMS departments. Of those, two were due to squads already being on a call and five were due to no crew being on duty.
The fire department had 12 fire calls for the month of August, nine of which were in the village and three in Unity Township.
The EMS responded to 125 total calls, 66 off which were in the village and 18 in Unity Township, with 41 mutual aid responses.
The police department had 369 calls for service for August, resulting in 168 reports.
Chloe Rafferty was hired as part time dispatcher and is currently in training.
A tentative trick or treat date was set for Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
