The East Palestine Town & Country Garden Club has selected the home of Charlie and Valerie Ewing, 398 W. Martin St., as its September Yard of the Month. The Ewing yard is filled with dahlias, zinnias and marigolds, creating a colorful display for the neighborhood to enjoy. Charlie shared that his love of dahlias began in the early 1990s when he purchased his first few plants while working at J.J. Newberry's in East Palestine. Each fall, the dahlias are carefully dug up and stored through the winter before being replanted in the spring. What began with just a couple of plants has multiplied into hundreds of plants over the years. Charlie also starts his zinnias from seed each spring, adding even more color and variety to the couple's yard. Charlie currently works at Ace Hardware in Columbiana, while Valerie works at Tapco. The East Palestine Town & Country Garden Club congratulates the Ewings on being selected as September's Yard of the Month and thanks them for helping add beauty to the community.
