Dispatching supervisor position created in East Palestine

By KATIE WHITE 2 min read

EAST PALESTINE -- A new position is being created in the village to supervise and train police dispatchers.

Village Council gave first reading to legislation during the Aug. 24 meeting that establishes an agreement between the FOP Union and the village to create the new position.

"The dispatcher supervisor position is a job that the police chief and department in general has determined is necessary to properly supervise and train our dispatchers. The primary responsibility is being the primary trainer for the department for dispatchers, as well as the person responsible for reviewing, updating, and improving internal processes, performing scheduling, etc." Village Manager Antonio Diaz-Guy said.

He added that the new position pay would be set at 4.5 percent above the top dispatcher wage.

In other matters, council also gave final reading and passage to an ordinance abolishing the fire department/administrative EMS position.

That temporary position was created as a result of the 2023 train derailment and Diaz-Guy previously explained the position is no longer needed.

Diaz-Guy also offered an update on the Joint Economic Development District, or JEDD.

He said Unity Township trustees and the village have finalized the map and have formal legislation to announce a public hearing but are still awaiting a final date to be set for the hearing.

Detailed Information about the JEDD can be found online at https://eastpalestine-oh.gov/east-palestine-news-and-alerts/.
