Mahoning SWCD holding annual election of supervisors
The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District recently announced details for its annual election of supervisors. Nominees are Kathy Miller and Gary Davenport.
The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission will cause an election of supervisors of the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) to be held in accordance with Chapter 940 of the Ohio Revised Code. Individuals who own or occupy land within the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District and are 18 years of age or older may vote for supervisor.
There are three ways an eligible voter can cast a ballot:
- At the SWCD office, 850 Industrial Road, Youngstown, from Sept. 30 until Oct. 29 during normal business hours
- At the SWCD Annual Meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Poland Library, 311 S. Main St.
- Voting absentee from Sept. 30 until Oct. 29 by requesting the ballot application and election ballot from the SWCD office at the following address: 850 Industrial Road, Youngstown, Ohio 44509, by calling 330-740-7995, or email askswcd@mahoningcountyoh.gov. Absentee ballots must be received by the SWCD office by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29.
One supervisor will be elected to a three-year term commencing Jan. 1, 2027, and ending Dec. 31, 2029.

NCTA Wampum Chapter announces fall schedule
Wampum Chapter, North Country Trail Association has announced several upcoming fall activities and events.
- On dates to be announced, the group will continue building bridges and digging trail on the new section off Middle Beaver Road in Elkton. All help is welcome and tools and instruction will be provided.
- The group will be talking trail and helping people carve their own hiking sticks at Pioneer Days in Beaver Creek State Park on Oct 3. Last chance to carve a stick this year.
- The group will need people to hold paintbrushes in Lisbon on Oct 4 starting at 2 p.m. to mark a reroute through town.
- On Oct 11 at 1 p.m., hikers will gather in the parking lot at Veteran's Park in Minerva for a scavenger hunt. Participants will be provided the rules and clues for the scavenger hunt.
- On Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m., Wampum Chapter will have its monthly meeting at Wampum Depot Train Station on Main Street in Wampum, Pa.
- On Oct. 20 at 6 p.m., the Ladies Hike Group will celebrate Halloween by wearing Witches hats/ costumes and hiking through the evening.
- On Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., the group is hosting its Annual Pumpkin Pie Party and Hike.

Springfield Township Historical Society's 'Afternoon at the Museum'
The Springfield Township Historical Society Museum continues its "Afternoon at the Museum" speaker series on Sunday, Oct. 4. Frank DeRhodes will talk about the 80-year history of the New Middletown Farmers and Sportsman Club. He will explain its contributions to conservation and the education of the youth to hunting, fishing, and how to enjoy the great outdoors. The STHS museum opens at 1:30 p.m., program starts at 2 p.m. This program is free and open to everyone. The museum is at 14188 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road (state Route 170), Petersburg. WLC Club
The WLC Club met Sept. 15, at the Living Well Church with leader Mary Jarvis opening the meeting with the pledge and roll call, and then Mary Schmidt led the group in prayer.
The best loser was Mary Jarvis and she also wore the officers ribbon.
Donna Lee had three weeks with no gains and received a tea towel.
The nono is all sweets and Autum won the 50/50 drawing.
Betty Pease and Donna Lee handed out the menu items for the tea party to be held next week. Members were reminded to bring in their tea pots decorated next week.?
?Jarvis closed the meeting wishing all a good week.
Choose To Lose Group
Choose To Lose Group met at Boyce Church on Sept. 22 with leader Penny Perorazio presiding. The meeting opened up with the pledge of allegiance followed by the CTLG roll call.
Pam Fouse gave the secretary's report and Cassie Stephens gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved as read.
Carolyn Hager was the CTLG biggest loser.
Margo Arnold was the runner up.
The no no's are cake and high calorie drinks.
Jackie Wilson won the food journals and share the blessing, Hager won the dimes that were held over.
Arnold and Hager lost weight and got to Put A Turtle In The Tank.
Winners of the No Fibbing Contest are JoAnn Beresford, Cassie Stephens, Perorazio and Fouse. New numbers were drawn for the following week #6.
Perorazio shared information about Taming Inflammation.
Arnold read an article on Wheat Berries.
Perorazio closed the meeting with prayer requests followed by the Lord's prayer.
