The Columbiana County Retired Teachers' Association held its September meeting at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. Nancy Dicken conducted the roll call, led the pledge and offered the invocation.
Six new members were welcomed: Cindy Earich, Kellie Seidner, Wendy Sternagle, Christa McIntosh, Tammy Muschweck and Annalee Muschweck.
Lunch was served by The Women of Faith.
The program was offered by Debbie Derflinger known as "The Laugh Lady." She is a certified laugh leader and humor professional. A retired registered nurse, Derflinger used laughter in healthcare. She explained that 90% of laughter comes from interaction with others. Derflinger also noted that people are more productive when they laugh. Members were put through activities that encouraged laughter.
Lisa Bircher conducted the business meeting. The treasurer's report and the minutes were accepted. Members were reminded that local dues ($10) and ORTA dues ($36) are due at the November meeting.
Members voted to continue with the $500 classroom grants for Columbiana County public school teachers. Gayle Noel will forward applications to the superintendents by Oct. 1.
Jerry Barnes provided membership updates and a review of information provided by the Ohio Retired Teachers' Association.
Bircher conducted the 50/50 which was won by Chris Laughlin.
Christa McIntosh was chosen as the winner of the free meal for October.
The next CCRTA meeting will be held at noon Oct. 15 at the same location. The program will be provided by Shari Fry, local artist.
