Wellsville residents vent frustrations with village issues to council

WELLSVILLE -- Several residents had a lot to say regarding their concerns with issues in the village during Tuesday's council meeting.

During the public portion of the meeting several residents addressed their concerns about weeds and neglected yards owned by the village, noting if residents are supposed to take care of their property, then the village should be responsible for village property.

A resident expressed her frustrations, saying the village isn't going after them. Village Administrator Jerry Medley said one of the properties is in probate, and the village can't touch it. Council Member Cindy Mick said a lot of properties were in foreclosure, and the village can't do anything with those, either.

Another resident asked when the last time was any of the ordinances regarding weeds have been enforced this year and if anyone had to pay any fines or go to court over their yards.

Police Lt. Marsha Eisenhart said that in regard to the weeds and those issues, the police can enforce the ordinances after the property inspector notifies them, but the village doesn't have one.

One resident commented that she was concerned about the drafting of legislation to limit only allowing one garbage/refuse company to pick up garbage in the village. Councilman Michael Lombardozzie told her that never made it to committee to become legislation.

The resident also voiced a complaint of Buckeye Water District putting gravel down after completing a repair and the gravel is being washed down the street to the sewer line. Mayor Bob Boley told her that was an issue for Buckeye Water District, and they were meeting that Thursday in Council Chambers. Zoning Officer Rick Williams said he would also address the issue with the Buckeye Water District.

A business owner asked about another building in bad shape and if they were going to close the roads around that because it would block parking to her restaurant. Boley said no. The owners of that building were sent a certified letter last week, and he saw three or four people at the building looking it over.
