LEETONIA -- The Leetonia Police Department is investigating an overdose on Columbia Street.
Police Chief Allen Haueter said that the department responded to a report of an unresponsive woman in the 300 block of Columbia Street at around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Haueter confirmed that a 46-year-old woman was dead of from an overdose but said he could not disclose the victim's name when contacted Friday afternoon. He said that the death was being considered suspicious at that time, and that the matter remains under investigation.
Haueter also said that the department was currently awaiting blood toxicology results from the Columbiana County Coroner's Office.
A Salem man, Joseph Bradford, 48, was arrested at the scene, charged with obstructing official business for allegedly failing to disclose to officers that another woman high on drugs was sitting in the passenger side of his truck parked in the back of the house.
According to the affidavit, Bradford had been asked several times if he knew anything else about the death and the other woman had been found unconscious in his vehicle during the course of the investigation.
"He wasn't quite up front with us, so I arrested him for obstruction. We found that there were more details he wasn't telling us," Haueter said.
