BELOIT (WKBN) - The Knox school building will remain closed today due to a threat investigation, according to the West Branch School superintendent's message to parents.
Manley said he was contacted on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and asked to report a threat to the Sebring Police Department that involved the Knox school building, the home of the West Branch Preschool, Small Wonders Daycare, and classrooms of Columbiana County ESC students.
After the threat was verified in writing, Manley said the investigation began, and one person was arrested shortly after midnight. Other possible leads are being investigated.
Manley said that even though a person was apprehended, the decision was made to close the Knox building on Wednesday. He released the following statement:
"I want to sincerely thank the Sebring Police Department, the FBI, Homeland Security, and all of the local, state, and federal agencies involved. Their quick response, professionalism, and excellent work helped ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community. In addition, I thank the administration of the Sebring Local Schools for working collaboratively through the night to help with the situation," Manley said.
While the Knox school was closed on Wednesday, all other West Branch schools and all other middle school/high school activities are operating as normal, according to Manley.
The Knox building will remain closed on today, an update to parents stated, and the daycare will be closed the rest of this week.
