SALEM (WKBN) -- A Salem woman has died and a passenger has been hospitalized after a car drove into a building Saturday afternoon.
A release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the car crashed into Perry Township Garage on South Ellsworth Avenue just before 4 p.m.
The driver, identified as Jennifer Engle, 56, of Salem, drove her Ford Fiesta off the left side of the roadway, crossing Snyder Avenue and crashing into the building, the release says.
Engle was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was airlifted to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown with "serious injuries," according to OSHP.
The passenger's current condition is unknown.
The building sustained "heavy damage" to the exterior and interior walls, and a Freightliner dump truck that was parked inside also sustained damage. The building was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
OSHP does not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, but they do say they suspect that Engle may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
Assisting agencies on the scene included OSHP, the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office, Perry Township Police and Fire, Stat MedEvac, EMT Ambulance and Sinsley's Towing.
