Columbiana County Summer Crisis Help
LISBON -- Community Action Agency's HEAP Summer Crisis Program (SCP) runs July 1 through Sept. 30. Appointments for the HEAP Summer Crisis may be made by calling the automated phone service at 330-892-8880. The Summer Crisis Program assists low-income households with an older household member (60 years or older) or households that can provide medical documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health. This year, households that have a disconnect notice, have been shut off, or are trying to establish new electric service are eligible.
The HEAP Summer Crisis Program allows for a one-time electric utility payment for eligible households. This assistance must result in the continuation of electric service for at least 30 days. Clients may receive an air conditioner and/or fan(s), or central air conditioning unit repairs. The client must be at least partially responsible for their electric bill to obtain Summer Crisis assistance. Eligible households can receive up to $500 in electric assistance if they are a customer of a regulated electric utility or up to $800 in electric assistance if they are a customer of unregulated electric utilities, such as cooperatives and municipal utilities. Applications for PIPP, HEAP, and Summer Crisis can be filled out online at www.energyhelp.ohio.gov. For information and assistance call 330-424-4013. The agency will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day.
The Counseling Center of Columbiana County to host second annual opportunity expo
LISBON -- The Counseling Center of Columbiana County's Employment Services Department will host its second annual opportunity expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds in Lisbon.
Made possible through funding from the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health, this free community event is designed to connect residents with the many opportunities available throughout Columbiana County. The opportunity expo will bring together employers, educators, workforce partners, apprenticeship programs, community organizations, and service providers in one location.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
¯ Meet with local employers currently hiring.
¯ Explore education, certification, and apprenticeship opportunities.
¯ Learn about workforce development and career advancement programs.
¯ Connect with community resources that support employment success.
¯ Discover services available through The Counseling Center's Employment Services Department and its community partners.
Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate and showcase the opportunities they provide. Whether hiring for immediate openings, promoting training programs, or sharing community resources, exhibitors play an important role in helping individuals build brighter futures while strengthening the local workforce.

"Our goal is to connect individuals with employers, educational programs, and community resources that can change lives. United Wall of Fame to induct six
HANOVERTON -- The United Wall of Fame membership selected the maximum number of six candidates from the nominations submitted by the United Community for the 2026 induction into the United Wall of Fame.
They are:
Jami Blake: Class of 1993. Academic/Career Accomplishments
Chuck Ellyson: posthumously, Special Honorary Achievement
Rebecca Hall: Class of 1986, Academic/Career Accomplishments
Neal Joy: Class of 1991, Athletic Accomplishment
Bill McGranahan: Class of 1964, Athletic Accomplishments
Mike Phillips: Class of 1977 (posthumously), Outstanding Service to United Local
The Golden Eagle Award, given to a group or business that deserves recognition in their support of United Local or an accomplishment, is being awarded to the 1972 Lady Eagles volleyball, basketball and track teams. These teams were the first women's sports teams at United and set a precedent for the many female sports to come in later years.
These inductees will be honored on Friday, Sept. 11 at the home football game and on Saturday, Sept. 12 at a dinner and induction ceremony at United High School.
