LEETONIA -- A boil order will be in effect beginning today for water main repairs.
A boil order is set to begin at approximately 9 a.m. today as repairs are made to a leaking water main valve, according to an announcement posted to the village's Facebook page Monday. The order will remain in place until water testing confirms that the water is safe for consumption.
According to the notice, test results are typically available within 24-hours, and a separate notice will be issued when the advisory is lifted.
While the advisory is in effect, residents should not consume any water from the village water system. According to the statement, residents should instead use bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or any food preparation. Alternatively, tap water should be brought "to a rolling boil for at least one minute" and allowed to cool before use to kill any bacteria or other organisms present within the water.
Excavation for the repair will be conducted at the intersection of Butcher Road and Washington Street. This section of Butcher Road will be closed while crews complete the repair.
According to the statement, residents who live on Honey Lane, Sleepy Hollow Drive, Bears Den Road, Orchard Hill Drive, the section of Walnut Street between Butcher Road and Wood Street, parts of York Street and potentially a section of Oak Street north of Wood Street may experience "a temporary interruption of water service during the repair." The village expects the disruption to last approximately six hours once the water main and valve have been fully exposed, and water service to be restored once the repairs are completed and water samples are collected.
The release also states that after water service is restored residents may experience low water pressure or discolored water "for several days after the repair." If their water is discolored, residents should run water from their cold water tap until the water becomes clear.
