EAST PALESTINE -- A bid is expected to be awarded on the village's new Government Services Complex in early October.
During the Aug. 10 council meeting Village Manager Antonio Diaz-Guy announced that bid advertisements are scheduled for Aug. 31 and Sept. 7, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for Sept. 8.
The bid due date is Sept. 18, with a bid award date scheduled for Oct. 12.
The new complex will move village offices and public safety services into one building farther away from the railroad tracks.
Currently, village administrative offices are located at 85 N. Market St. while police are located at 75 E. Main St., and the fire and EMS services are located at 67 E. Clark St.
The new 39,000-square-foot complex was last estimated to cost $25 million, with nearly $16 million made available in the form of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Community Facilities Disaster Assistance program grant.
"This project is like many others happening in East Palestine right now: large, complex, and important. And, while it took us a little longer than we expected to complete design, we think the additional effort was necessary to get the end product right. This facility represents an efficient use of space while ensuring our departments have the necessary room to grow as we move East Palestine forward," Diaz-Guy said.
Also during the meeting, updates were provided on Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the park renovation project.
According to the Park/Recreation/Cemetery report, for Phase 2 the final electrical inspection is scheduled for Aug. 24, final building inspection in scheduled for Aug. 26 and final health department inspection is scheduled for Aug. 27.
Continuity testing is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 14.
Phase 2 is mainly focused on the new swimming pool and related facilities while Phase 3 consists of a new playground.
Construction for Phase 3 recently got underway.
The park brought in $1,770 in rental revenue for the month of July, according to the report.
