Town & Country Garden Club holds June meeting
EAST PALESTINE – The Town & Country Garden Club of East Palestine recently held its June meeting. Due to VBS taking place at First Church of Christ, the meeting was held on member Mary Anne Tyger’s patio. There were 23 members present, with three being new members. All were welcomed by President Joyce Doll, followed by a blessing given before inviting all to enjoy the snack. The month’s snack committee was Lyndsay DeLaRosa Guy, Erin Neiheisal and Jeanne Watson Antol, and members had a choice of a root beer float or an ice cream sundae.
While members were enjoying their snack, Nicole Rettig gave a presentation on honey bees, with questions/answers after.
The meeting was then called to order and began with Committee reports given. Susan Dellavole gave the treasurer’s report, which was unanimously approved. Secretary Bonnie Davis read the minutes, which were also unanimously approved. Corresponding Secretary Aubrin Strohecker then gave her report. She sent two birthday cards, Thank Yous to the merchants of EP, and an invitation to the club’s picnic next month to the Columbiana Women’s Club.
Civic Committee Chair Darlene Linert gave an update on the planters, stating that the flags will be changed to the 250 flags soon, along with American flags being placed at the triangle. Watering committee discussion with new members joining a watering team. Also a Girl Scout Troop has volunteered to do the watering at the Park Gazebo.
Ways and Means Committee Chair Bonnie Davis gave a report of the Grocery Raffle Sales. Due to inclement weather, tickets sales were down during the Street Fair. The club had some success at both Claybrook and Alice Street sales.
?Under Old Business, the club will be purchasing three benches from Runnion’s Originals – one for Tom Brittain AllStars and two to be used as memorials for past garden club members and family members. These benches will be placed at the park, location to be determined.
Under New Business: A motion was made, seconded and approved to have the green table cloth purchased to be used when the club is set up at any function, to be embroidered with the garden club name by Sew Be It Custom Embroidery, East Palestine.
Also the clubs By-Laws need to be revised. The committee will consist of the elected officers and the past president. Watch What’sApp for meeting information.
July’s meeting will be the annual picnic at the City Park, tables 30, 31 and 32. Meat, drinks and table service will be provided. Each member is to bring a covered dish to share. There will be entertainment this year, starting at 6 p.m.
The next meeting will be 6 p.m. Aug. 10 at The First Church of Christ. As always, anyone (men, women, teens) who would be interested in joining the club are always welcome to attend.
