Registration open for Columbiana’s ‘Art in Her Heart’ exhibit and sale

COLUMBIANA -- The Firestone Cultural and Custodial Committee, a 501(c)3 organization, invites the community and art lovers and buyers across the region to the second annual "Art in Her Heart" Idabelle Firestone Fine Art Exhibition and Sale, a one-day celebration showcasing the works of talented local artists and providing a unique opportunity for collectors and admirers to acquire original fine art in an intimate garden setting. The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15 (rain date Aug. 22) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden at Firestone Park in Columbiana.
The exhibition and sale will feature original artwork across a range of mediums, including two and three-dimensional original works including painting, drawing, photography, sculptures, and ceramics, displayed on the historic grounds of the Gathering Place, the outdoor hilltop amphitheater built to honor Idabelle's legacy as a pioneering patron of the arts, music and flower gardens in her day.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Artists are invited to apply to this juried show by filling out an application and submitting three photo examples of their work. All artist applications will be reviewed before being accepted. Entry fee is $35 and no additional commissions from sales will be taken by the sponsoring organization.
The featured artist this year is Christopher Leeper, a full-time artist from Canfield. Among many artistic accomplishments, he is a published author and illustrator of four children's books for the Smithsonian and African Wildlife Foundation, as well as being published in several prestigious Artists magazines. He is a member of the adjunct faculty in the Department of Art at Youngstown State University. Examples of his art will be displayed in the main tent on the grounds.
Special features this year include a children's creative art table by Barb Schmidt of Warm Heart Studio, Cellist Ed Madej providing music from noon to 3 p.m., Mike's 80's Ice Cream Truck and a Chick-Fil-A concession stand. In addition, the main tent will also feature "Local Color" a booth with a display of landscapes, buildings and landmarks featuring Columbiana and the surrounding county, with part of the proceeds going to the "Squeaky Wheel Theater Group," a not-for-profit theater group.
Pat Tingle, local philanthropist and founder of the event, has driven its creation as a day to both honor Idabelle and local artists.
"We are proud to launch a series of art events at this special location in the park honoring Idabelle and to allow the community to have the opportunity to view and add a piece of original artwork to their collections," she said.
Artists may submit an entry form online (https;//artinherrheart.show/artist registration/) or may submit an application in person or by mail to Firestone Park Cultural and Custodial Committee at the Firestone Legacy and Visitors Center at 246 E. Park Ave., Columbiana, Ohio 44408. Legacy Center's hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A printable form may be downloaded at https;//artinherrheart.show/printregistration/. Deadline for entry is July 31. Checks may be made payable to "Firestone Park Cultural and Custodial Committee" and may be mailed or dropped off at the center for both online and print applications. Applications will include comprehensive information for the day of the event, and artists may expect email notification of their status.
