COLUMBIANA -- A non-profit organization is looking to host a wing festival in the city.
Wanda Wellman of Alta Care Group presented the idea to City Council recently.
Wellman said the organization serves Mahoning and Trumbull counties and opened a behavioral health office in Salem in May, bringing the service area to Columbiana County as well.
Alta Care Group also celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, she added.
"I would like the opportunity to host a large community event. I think you all do a wonderful job with large-scale community events. I really would love the opportunity to bring this event into Columbiana," she said.
She went on to say the idea is to invite food truck vendors from all three counties and set up in the Garden of Eatin' space on Main Street.
Restaurants and vendors invited would be those that specialize in wings.
Wellman originally planned to have the event in the city sometime around Sept. 12 but city officials said that wouldn't be possible since the annual Street Fair is at that time.
Wellman said she would be open to considering a different date.
"Hosting it there in downtown Columbiana, the opportunity for a large crowd would exist. That is big draw for us," she said.
City Manager Lance Willard said that if the event is isolated to the roughly 5,000-square-foot isolated space council would need to decide whether they want to enact a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA.
Council approved a motion for the wing festival concept pending the city manager's approval.
