EAST PALESTINE -- The long-awaited electrical panel for the public pool at Village Park has arrived, but an opening date is still to be determined as the village works to have the pool operational.

Village Manager Antonio Diaz-Guy provided an update on the work during the Monday council meeting.

He said that the electrical panel is being installed and the next step is for the pool surface to be plastered and filled.

The pool has been unavailable to the public as the village awaited the arrival of the necessary panel.

While the village works to get the pool functional an openings date is still to be determined.

The new pool was the focus of Phase 2 of the village's park revitalization project.

Phase 3 of the project is a new playground, which Diaz-Guy said will begin in the coming days.

He said the playground equipment is being procured and the construction crew is mobilizing.

Bids were opened for Phase 3 of the project in late February and early March of this year and the goal is for a 2027 opening for the playground.

The new playground was designed by local youth in 2025 and will be located in the inner half circle of the northern side of the park next to the Community Center.

The inclusive and accessible playground will feature a wooden playset zone, swinging area, a modern swing structure, and a jumping pillow.

The playground will also be shaded.

While the pool and playground areas are closed to the public the rest of the park remains open during construction and visitors are able to enjoy the sand volleyball, pickleball courts, and basketball courts, as well as the newly improved disc golf course and the baseball fields.

Pavilions and gazebos are also open for rental.
