East Liverpool City Hospital Community Festival canceled
Due to the weather forecast for today, the East Liverpool City Hospital Community Festival event has been canceled. A statement issued by the hospital said "the safety of our sponsors, community partners, staff, volunteers, and community is always our top priority. Thank you to our incredible sponsors, community partners, vendors, and everyone who planned to attend." Watch the hospital's social media channels for any updates regarding the rescheduled date in the fall.
Salem Music Study Club to open new season
Salem Music Study Club will begin its 2026-2027 season on Wednesday, July 22, at 7 p.m. at the parlor of the Educational Building upstairs directly beside the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. A regular meeting will be had for topics of the group to be discussed. Following will be a program presented by Karen Culp about Sally Bricker's life and passing of a year ago. Refreshments will be provided. The program booklets shall be ready to go.
State Route 558 closure
State Route 558 will close between Signal and Kirk roads from July 27 through 31 for a culvert replacement. The detour is state Route 164 south to state Route 517 east, state Route 517 east back to state Route 558, and reverse. Estimated completion date is July 31.
U.S. 224 ramp to state Route 11 closure
Beginning Monday, July 20, the ramp from U.S. Route 224 to state Route 11 south in Canfield will be closed through Friday, July 24 for a culvert replacement. The detour will be U.S. Route 224 west to state Route 46 south to state Route 11.
Salem Historical Society to hold Underground Railroad Trolley Tour
The Salem Historical Society has scheduled an Underground Railroad Trolley Tour for Sunday, July 26 at 1 p.m. The cost is $15 per person and reservations are recommended. To make a reservation, call 330-337-8514. Walk-ins are also welcome after reservations are met. The trolley loads at 239 S. Lundy Ave. outside the gift shop and parking is available in the municipal lot across from Lundy. Plan on arriving about 15 minutes early to make payment and get seated on the trolley.
ESCEO annual Teacher Flea scheduled for July 31
The ESC of Eastern Ohio will host its third annual Teacher Flea on Friday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 7320 N. Palmyra Road in Canfield. This one-day-only event invites educators to shop gently used and budget-friendly classroom materials, supplies, decor, books, manipulatives, and more -- sold by fellow teachers who are cleaning out their classrooms and closets ahead of the school year. "Teachers know what other teachers need," said Staci Direnzo, Director of Pupil Services and Related Services "This is a unique way to support one another and share resources as we gear up for back-to-school." OSU Extension Mahoning County offers pressure canning class, free gauge testing
Ohio State University Extension Mahoning County is offering a Pressure Canning Class and Free Pressure Canner Gauge Testing on Friday, Aug. 7, to help residents safely preserve food and ensure their equipment is operating accurately. The Pressure Canning Class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the OSU Extension Mahoning County Office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield. The class costs $10 per person, and advance registration is required. Participants will learn the fundamentals of pressure canning, including current USDA recommendations for safely preserving low-acid foods such as vegetables, soups, stews, and meats. The class will cover proper canning techniques, equipment, and best practices to reduce the risk of foodborne illness while preserving the quality of home-canned foods. Following the class, OSU Extension will host a free Pressure Canner Gauge Testing Open House from 1 to 3 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring their pressure canners to have their dial gauges tested for accuracy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends testing dial gauges annually, as they can become inaccurate over time. An inaccurate gauge may lead to under-processing or over-processing of food, potentially creating food safety concerns or affecting food quality. Class size is limited. Tops 1341 holds meeting
GLENMOOR - Tops 1341 met at the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church Monday, July 13, with Mary Gailey, facilitator, presiding. The best loser was Patty Gruszecki and the runner up was Marlene Reynolds. They chose brownies and chocolate cookies as the junk food for the coming week.
The drawing winners were: 50/50, Pat Allison; food chart, Reynolds; junk food, Dorothy Garn; and jackpot winner, Gailey.
Other winners were: Chris Plunkett returning from vacation without a gain; Lydia Kraft held the travel box for week two; Reynolds lost weight three weeks in a row. Two members remain on the check.
The secretary's report was approved as written. Cathy Wollam gave the treasurer's report and it was filed for audit.
The yearly election was held and the following members will hold an office for the next year: facilitator Gailey, co-facilitator Cindy Hays, secretary Garn, treasurer Wollam and weight recorder Darla Varney.
The monthly drawings for June were as follows: Best Loser, Reynolds; runners up, Becky Andrews and Cheryl Myers; exercise winner, Garn. Gailey was the food chart winner. The Loser Lotto winner was Brenda Miller.
The meeting opened with pledges and closed with the Lord's Prayer.

Choose To Lose Group holds meetings
Choose To Lose Group met at Boyce Church on July 7 with leader Penny Perorazio presiding. The meeting opened up with the pledge of allegiance followed by the CTLG roll call.
Pam Fouse gave the secretary's report and Cassie Stephens gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved as read.
Jackie Wilson and Tassy Evereti were tied for the biggest loser.
Tammy Heddelston won the Food Journals, Stephens won the dimes, and Fouse won Share The Blessing. Winners of the No Fibbing Contest were Stephens, Jean Ferrebee, Perorazio, Pat Heacock and Fouse.
The no nos are bread and candy.
Wilson, Everett, Dottie Seevers, Ferrebee, Heddelston, Stephens, Pat Heacock and Fouse Got To Put A Turtle In The Tank.
Perorazio read an article by Brandy Lynn, Smoky Mountain Living.

After the meeting the group went to Coaches Burger Bar to Celebrate Margo Arnold's birthday. Cake from Giant Eagle was provided. Birthday members get $10 of their lunch.
