Members of the East Liverpool High School Culture Club recently spent the day exploring Beaver Creek State Park and discovering the rich history right in their own backyard.

Students Julianna Burkett, Alana Cornell, Theo Hernandez, Agnes Murphy, Julianna Burkett, Daylin Clark, Logan Cornell, Tyler Ruess, Sierra Reed and Jayla Wright met with local historian Tim Brookes, who shared stories about the park, the Sandy and Beaver Canal and the important role the area played in Ohio’s early transportation and commerce. The group then hiked to Gretchen’s Lock, one of the remaining canal locks that serves as a reminder of the region’s 19th-century engineering achievements.

From scenic trails to historical landmarks, students gained a deeper appreciation for the people and places that helped shape the community.

Starting at $2.99/week.
