Another status hearing set in 2021 murder case
LISBON — Another status hearing is now set for 11:30 a.m. Aug. 6 in the aggravated murder case against Curtis D. Holland, the man identified by prosecutors as the other shooter allegedly involved in the 2021 murder of Brycen Douglas.
Holland, 30, Dewey Avenue, East Liverpool, appeared in the custody of deputies during a status hearing Wednesday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court before Judge Scott Washam. He was accompanied by one of his defense attorneys, Rhys Cartwright Jones. He’s also represented by defense attorney Zach Miller.
The state was represented by county Assistant Prosecutors Steve Yacovone and Christopher Weeda.
The judge spoke briefly with the attorneys for both sides and they selected the August date for another status hearing.
A jury trial remains set for Oct. 5.
Holland was charged last year with aggravated murder and murder, both unclassified felonies, a third-degree felony of having weapons while under disability and two firearm specifications. He’s accused of causing Brycen’s 2021 death and using a weapon when he was prohibited from having or using a gun due to a previous drug conviction.
Also indicted at the same time as Holland for the murder was the alleged driver in the case, Travis W. Kidder, 26, Bradshaw Avenue, East Liverpool, who had already been facing a a third-degree felony of obstructing justice for allegedly lying to investigators. A superseding indictment charged him with the obstructing count along with aggravated murder and murder and two counts of complicity in the commission of an offense, all unclassified felonies, and three firearm specifications, all related to the shooting.
In April, he pleaded guilty to amended charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence, along with a charge of obstructing justice.
As part of the plea agreement, Kidder won’t face a charge of aggravated murder or complicity in the commission of an offense, with those charges to be dismissed.
He will have to testify and be truthful in the case against Holland. Yacovone said he’ll be recommending a sentence of up to eight years for Kidder and requested the sentencing be scheduled after Holland’s trial. Sentencing for Kidder remains set for 9:20 a.m. Oct. 19.
Douglas was just 20 years old at the time of his death and was sitting on a porch with some friends in East Liverpool’s east end on July 15, 2021 when the shooting occurred.
Two other defendants involved in the shooting are already in prison. Elvin “EJ” Tisdale, 36, identified as one of the shooters, was sentenced in June 2025 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for aggravated murder (with another murder charge merged for sentencing), plus an additional mandatory three years for a firearm specification and an additional three years for having weapons under disability for being prohibited from having or using a gun due to a previous felony conviction for drugs.
His “cousin” Allen Tisdale, 26, was sentenced to at least 10 years in prison in July 2025 after testifying in the trial against EJ. He entered a guilty plea in May 2025 to involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, and complicity to improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, a second-degree felony. He was originally facing charges of aggravated murder and murder, but eventually told investigators what happened and agreed to testify as part of a plea deal.
He testified at EJ’s trial and said that EJ and Holland walked between two houses across the street from the porch in question and opened fire, hitting Douglas. Allan said he was the lookout and he identified Kidder as the driver who brought them all to the area near Pennsylvania Avenue.
Both Kidder and Holland remain jailed under $1 million cash or surety bonds.
