2 tornadoes confirmed in Columbiana County
(WKBN) — The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh toured damage in two areas on Monday following severe weather that rolled through the Valley on Sunday afternoon.
Survey results concluded that three tornadoes touched down. Two of those tornadoes occurred in Columbiana County. One of these was in Salem, and the other formed later along the path closer to the Ohio/Pennsylvania border. Another tornado was confirmed in Jefferson County in west-central Pennsylvania, north of Punxsutawney.
The Salem tornado in Columbiana County will be rated as an EF-1, meaning wind speeds were between 86 and 110 miles per hour. This is the 23rd tornado on record in the county since 1880. The most recent was an EF-0 on June 11, 2020.
The second tornado from eastern Columbiana County is still being investigated as of mid-afternoon Monday.
Later this evening or Tuesday, once the survey crews complete their work in damaged areas, the National Weather Service will release full details of the tornadoes. This will include the path of the tornado, exact wind speed and any other details as necessary.
