Salem school board approves administrator contracts

SALEM -- The Salem school board has approved new contracts for several administrators.
The school board Monday night approved new three-year contracts for the period of Aug. 1, 2026, through July 31, 2029, including (with salary in parenthesis): High School Associate Principal Melanie Carfolo ($91,971), Southeast Elementary Principal Jenny Pancake ($91,971), Literacy Specialist Shelley Wilson ($79,351), Maintenance Supervisor Jason Austin ($77,842), Quaker Tech and Transportation Supervisor Jeff Martig ($81,083) and Athletic Director Matt Freeman ($83,576).
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Salem Education Association which will rename the "Cheerleader Advisor-High School" and "Cheerleader Advisor Grade 9" to "Varsity Cheerleader Advisor" and "Assistant Cheerleader Advisor," respectively. The memorandum will also create a new "High School Head Girls Wrestling Coach" position.
The board also approved several administrative and personnel items by consent agenda.
Personnel matters approved included: instructors for summer school for the 2025-2026 school year; placing Jesse Dotson on reduction in force status effective the start of the 2026-2027 school year; the list of employees for the Summer Feed Program; the resignation of School Psychologist Elizabeth Christani effective June 12; an athletic supplemental for Head Boys' Varsity Tennis Coach Jude Mercer for the 2025-2026 school year retroactive to March 16; Athletic Supplementals for the 2026-2027 school year; the hire of Duty Aides Jessica Helman, and Lauren Stalnaker effective at the start of the 2026-2027 school year; staff for the STEM Summer Program for Elementary Students from June 4-July 23 one day per week; the award of an Ohio Association of Public School Employees bid to Cafeteria Worker Angela Mullet; a continuing contract for Matthew Yanek; and School Nurse Contracts for Devon Brown and Lynea Tayler effective Aug. 1, 2026-July 31, 2029.
Administrative matters approved included: the Salem Public Library Tax Budget Request for 2027; the list of high school graduates for the class of 2026; a service agreement between the ESC Governing Board and Salem City School District for the 2026-2027 school year beginning on July 1, 2026, and shall terminate on June 30, 2027; the second reading of board policy updates; and education alternatives service agreement for the purpose of providing necessary educational services for the 2026-2027 school year; a service contract with PsyCare Inc.; a service contract with the Salem Community Center effective from May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2028; the transfer of $338,961.53 from the General Fund to the Termination Benefits fund; a resolution establishing a capital projects fund; the ACCESS Agreement Contract for application services for fiscal year 2027; and a State of Ohio Department of Education Center for School Options and Finance Contract Amount for fiscal year 2027 at a cost of $586,236.00.
The meeting concluded with an executive session for personnel matters with no action to follow.
The board of education will meet next at 7 p.m. on June 29.
